Go to port aventura. It's a huge theme park with 4 -5 different worlds inside. Home to the biggest rollercoaster in Europe the dragon khan, in the China town section of the theme park and some other mad rides and shows, you'll love your time here. Ideally you should get a 3 day pass or something as it works out cheaper and you can't get round it in a day. We managed to but we had to rush and miss lots of things. I think you can get reduction on entry to costa caribe waterpark too if you get a ticket to port aventura so it makes sense to get a 3 day ticket and spend a whole day in the waterpark too. Port aventura is great for all ages as they don't just have rides, they have shows with wild birds and animals etc. Boat rides and simulators are in the park also.
For a bit of fun, why not take the little train that runs around Salou, it goes along the promenade and into the old town. You can change onto other little trains to go to some of the other beaches, Port Aventura, and onto Cape Salou.
The round trip takes about an hour, so good value and a good way to see the sites.
The price is €3:30. per trip (2007 price).
The Mexico area of Port Aventura features the Parks newest attraction... HURAKAN CONDOR... At 328ft high and a fall of 282ft, this mammoth gravity fall ride is the largest in the world!!! I'll admit it... I was too scared to go on it! but by the the look of fear on the riders faces I think I made the right decision... I will go on it next time... probably.
This area also includes El Diablo Mine train; a fairly mediocre runaway train ride, for my liking it's too stop/start, the kids enjoyed it though. Templo Del Fuego is another attraction worth visiting here... it's a show (of a kind) featuring water, fire and explosions... a type of Indiano Jones themed show... The finale of the show is fantastic!!! just don't stand too close.
Port Aventura Theme Park, designed by the creators of Alton Towers, Busch Gardens and Universal Parks Orlando... once owned by the Universal company, now Caixa banking group and the main reason for the millions of visitors to Salou each year.
The Theme Park is just one part of the Port Aventura experience... it also has 3 hotels, one on site (The PortAventura Hotel) and 2 hotels adjacent (The Caribe Resort and The El Paso). It also has it's own waterpark.. Caribe Aquatic Park.
I have stayed at the Caribe resort and would highly reccommend it.
The theme park consists of several themed lands, these being China, Mexico, Polynesia, The Far West and Mediterranea. Each of these lands are very well depicted with typical architecture and detail. Cultural music of each area is gently piped around, this is not too loud and adds character to each area you visit.
See my other "Things to do" tips for a little on each area.
Me my fiance and our 5yr old son stayed at the hotel portaventura from 22nd sept -6th 0ct 06 hotel was great staff are really polite and joking around with our son straight away, room was lovely looking over the pool cleaned spotlessly every day, restaurant and staff were greatcould not fault it at all night time entertainment was'nt brilliant but was good for the kids as they were allowed on the stage and most nights one of the characters came along,
It was really good that the hotel has its own acces to the park you can go in and out as you please, the time of year we went was good because there were hardly any qeues we didnt even need our express passes, one thing that was annoying tho was on the rides the staff have a measuring stick and some days my son was tall enough the next he wasnt did't make sense but he loved the park so much, make sure you buy one of the autograph books from the gift shop as there is plenty of characters walking around we managed to see all of them, shrek is paticuly hard to find, it was the halloween theme when we were there excellent even though we went for 14 days we did not get bored of the park we only just did everything in there in a fortnight, its good that its right by the hotel as it can get tiring walking around.
The aquapark is great if you have children they will love it.
overall it was a great holiday and we want to go back this year
Despite my husbands reluctance to go to Spain, we had a whale of a time! The hotel is built to look like a Med village and the food in the restaurants was suberb. My daughter, who is normally very fussy, tried all kinds of new things. The selling point for us was the ease of access to the theme park and the fact you could go out all day and then go into the park in the evening. We regretted eating in the park one evening though, as the food was better in the hotel. We would return for another holiday, and the tour rep was excellent. Our day trips to Tarragona and Barcelona have made us want to return to explore Catalonia more fully.
Booked for one night - price included entrance to Park (and water park) for both day of arrival and day of departure.
Hotel is well run ... (though the lift broke whilst we were in it and despite buzzing reception no-one came - lucky Bruce Banner opened the door for us!)
More 3* than 4* but it was good stay in a clean and comfy room.
Excellent breakfast!

I think Port Aventura is the best attraction park in Spain. But I couldn’t spend there more than 2 days. Even now they have an aqua park an hotels… I can’t compare it to WDW in Florida!
Hi we are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children aged 16 and 10) and have just bought 14 day tickets to Port Aventura. However we are only away for a week from 31st March - 7th April and just wondered if anyone was going to Port Aventura on the 8th onwards who wanted to have the remaining 7 days that will be left on our tickets. That way we could split the cost and both get a cheaper option. Anyone interested please let us know. The tickets are £45 each for the 3 adults and £35 for the child so we would both be able to get quite a bargain!
I sent a reply to your VT email address.
Does anyone know if you can get a whole season ticket and how much it costs, as I have friends going at a different time of the year and thought we could also split the cost. Thanks Karen
Hi guys we're off to Salou (the Regina Gran) on 6th october for a combined 50th birthday. Is it possible to just get aone day ticket for Port Aventura? Andwould it be better to drive or take the train to the Dali museum. Also can you recommend agood local bar/restaurant (not full of English!!) cheers.
Any other suggestions for things to do for 2 almost middleaged fairly decrepit young at heart folks would be appreciated!!
I beleive you can purchase a day ticket at the gate or through your hotel reception. I know for sure that there is a ticket for the evening which is 24 euros and they allow you entry as from 1900hrs. Check if there is a half day ticket as well, I know you could buy them a couple of years back.
Their website is www.portaventura.es/home.asp?pIdi=uk
yes you can buy i one day pass on the gate of porta, the queues will not be that bad in oct. as for pubs/resturants stick to the old part of salou (around the train station side) its a bit more spanish. the top end by the fountain is mostly tourist bars english/dutch..etc...cambrils is better for a nice night out you can get a nice meal on the habour.hope it helps..
Thanks for your help
