I will be visiting Sitges for a weekend break in a couple of weeks. I think i have enough information to help me travel from Barcelona airport to sitges station. How do I get from sitges station to Antemare hotel and what is the best means of travel to the hotel. I hear its just 15 minutes walk. Could i have exact directions or a map to help me find it.
Hiya,
There's a map here,

if you have a lot of luggage you'll want a taxi, if not just walk about 2km west along the seafront and then head inland a little.
regards
Mark
Hi, too far to walk with luggage. Taxis are reliable, pretty cheap and usually waiting right outside the station.
Have a good time.

The Boulevard for the pedestrian along the beach is really nice and allows you to enjoy the view on the sea and also on the nice waterfront houses all along. In the evening, it is also a great place for a romantic walk... or tango under the moon!!!!!
Constructed in 1889, l'Ajuntament de Sitges is the city hall building. It was designed by the Catalan architect Salvador Vinyals Sabaté in a neo-Catalan Gothic style. The Ajuntament is located in Old Sitges, just behind the Church of Sant Bartomeu i Santa Tecla.
Well, we just passed through Sitges for a short stopover for a few minutes on our way from Tarragona to Barcelona and i liked this small, quiet (at least in November) villages with its wonderfull beaches... love to come there again in summer!
Surprisingly, the church is right at the coastline of sitges - and that is something very nice and something which i haven't seen before.
I like Art nouveau style (as you can see on my pages on Brussels) and I knew that I would find a lot of Moderniste architecture (spanish version of Art Nouveau) in Barcelona...but I did not know that Sitges was also a very important center for Modernism too!!!! In fact, one of the famous modernist artist, Rusiñol, choose Sitges as residence town and settled in the houses called Cau Ferrat where he organised literary competitions during the Festes Modernistes (Art Nouveau festivals) between 1892 and 1899.
Rusiñol had regularly meetings from 1897 in the literary café "Els quatre gats" installed in a building of Puig i Cadafalch in the old Barcelona, an Art Nouveau café with a huge prestige in artistic circles. That meetings were also frequented by other artists as Picasso -his paintings of blue and rose period are considered Art Nouveau-, Miquel Utrillo, Mir, Pichot, and others.
The magazine "Pèl i ploma" published by Ramon Casas was the spokesman of the movement in Barcelona.
That collective attitude of artistic renewal and progress was the base of impulsion of one of most brilliant periods of Catalan art.
Bases of the Catalan Art Nouveau
The Art Nouveau in Catalonia (Modernisme) had a fantastic expansion in a country opened to all currents from Europe in order to affirm his differences with Spain and reinforce his politic nationalism, in a period leaded by "Renaixença" (the Renaissance or rebirth) after a long period of decline caused by its military defeat in 1714 and consequent loss of his national rights and institutions.
Architects as Gaudí, Domènech i Montaner, Puig i Cadafalch and others took the leadership of the Modernism.
Characteristics of the Modernism
In fact Art Nouveau represents all over the world and specially in Catalonia the liberty to create new shapes not previously accepted.
The Catalan Art Nouveau don't only reflexes in its architecture the ornamentation richness who is common in all the Art Nouveau, but also manifest an interest to maintain and renew the traditional building and decoration techniques, using old materials as brick and new materials (at that time) as iron and new ceramic techniques
