February in Sitges

by annaweaving

I love modern art, jazz and classical music, walking, architecture.....and am planning to be in Sitges in January or Feb 2011. Are there any walking tours, or low key guides that anyone could recommend. I will NOT be there over the weekend but rather Monday-Friday. I speak French and English but little Spanish

Re: February in Sitges

by Belsaita

Sitges is a real town where people live and work all year round, so it will not be closed... however it will be very quiet at that time, even more on Monday-Friday (weekends are livelier as many Barcelonins head there for the weekend, especially if the weather is nice)

You may check: http://www.sitgestur.cat/index.php?sect=agenda&lang=en
There are no events listed for Jan-Feb yet, but I they will be adding, Sitges tends to have cultural activities all year round. However, most of them will be in Catalan language. You can contact the tourist info office too

Travel Tips for Sitges

March. The antique cars rally

by Labrix

In march it's made a rally with antique cars from Barcelona to Sitges. They drive through the road C-31, also know as "carretera de las costas", that means road of the coast, it's a little road full of curves and spectacurar views of the sea. When the cars arrive to Sitges, the drivers rest a little bit and the people can enjoy with the cars parked on the Fragata beach, just below the church. The exactly dates changes every year, so before going check when is going to be done.

Museu Cau Ferrat

by mikey_e

Cau Ferrat was the house owned by Rusiñol, a friend and associate of Pablo Picasso. Picasso, Rusiñol and other artists used to meet in the Quatre Gats, a famous café in the centre of Barcelona's Old City. Today, Cau Ferrate contains some works by these friends of Rusiñol as well as many of the artists own works and a motley group of pieces that he brought back from various parts of Catalunya. There are things like decorative ironwork and bed frames, all of which add to the bizarre nature of the upper floor of the museum/house. The ground floor, however, is preserved as a sort of museum of the daily life of Rusiñol with tons of beautiful tilework in the former living room of the artist. Perhaps the most spectacular part of the entire visit is when you admire Rusiñol's living room and collection of pottery as you listen to the waves break beneath the stained glass windows of the ground floor.

Maricel de Terra

by MM212

Built as a residential palace in 1911, the Maricel de Terra is one of Sitges most identifiable architectural building, along with the neighbouring Maricel de Mar. It was designed by the architect Miquel Utrillo i Morlius in a style identical to the adjacent buildings.
