From Montserrat to Sitges

by Willyfaheem

am visiting Barcelona next week and i have 1 day to get out of the city in a day trip. my initial plan was to visit montserrat and then found that there is a tour that includes both montserrat and sitges, so i have decided of doing this on my own although i know that sitges needs one full day but i am kinda stuck in time.

my plan goes as follows:
head to montserrat from barcelona by train in the early morning even to avid the crowds, spend there like 3 hours and then go to sitges and spend the r5est of the day overthere
i would like to know the following
- is there a connecting train from montserrat to sitges??
- how long does it take???
- i heared that there are carnivals on both sundays and tuesdays??? is this true?
- which one is more intresting??
- usually when does the carnival starts???
- when is the last train from sitges back to barcelona

i hope you can help me out with this- thanks in advance

Willy

Re: From Montserrat to Sitges

There is no direct train from Montserrat to Sitges. You will have to backtrack a couple of stops and transfer back to the coastal line.

I've lost touch with when all of the festivals are, so I cannot help with that.

The trains from Sitges:
15130 REGIONAL 06.41am 07.17am 36 min
15400 REGIONAL 08.56am 09.32am 36 min
15138 REGIONAL 22.26pm 23.02pm 36 min

Hi,

I live in Sitges and I think that I can help you a little bit. So here we go:

- is there a connecting train from montserrat to sitges??
No. For going to Montserrat you have to take the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC). In Barcelona the station is in Plaça Catalunya. It's a very easy and pleasant trip.
For going to Sitges you have to take the RENFE train in Barcelona, in Passeig de Gracia or Sants Central Station (if they didn't changed, it departs from plattform 10).
- how long does it take???
From Barcelona to Sitges it takes about 40 min.
- i heared that there are carnivals on both sundays and tuesdays??? is this true?
Yes, but only when it's Carnival, now it already passed. But in Sitges there's always some activity.
- which one is more intresting??
In Montserrat, the monestry, the museum, the mountain. In Sitges, the museums (there are 3), the old town, the beach, the art galleries.
- usually when does the carnival starts???
It changes every year, but usually is about February.
- when is the last train from sitges back to barcelona
At 22h20.

Travel Tips for Sitges

July, August, September. Sitgestiu Cultural

by Labrix

Estiu is a Catalonian word that means summer, so Sitgestiu Cultural it's a game of words referring to a summer of culture in Sitges.

Are 3 months full of concerts, exhibitions, guided visits through the culture or the history of the town and also a lot of acts in the museums.

As the activities changes every year, the best thing that you can do is to get the program in the tourism office. The main one is at the entrance of the town by road, in the building called Oasis, just besides the stone bridge of the railway and in front of the bus stop. Anyway, in summer you can find Tourist Offices in other places, as the train station or below the church.

El Cau Ferrat.
Sitges is also know as the place where gay people meat each other and spend their holidays .... we did not know that when we visited the place, but we saw .... and heard it after our trip to Sitges.
This place was the meeting point of some Catalan Intellectuals at the beginning of the 20th century.

Fun in the Sand

by MM212

If you are a sculptor, then you may want to join the numerous sand sculptors in Sitges whose amazing creations seemed to decorate the many sandy beaches of Passeig de la Ribera. Otherwise, admiring the sculptures like I did will suffice... See the attached photos for some of the incredible works I witnessed.

Seaside Resort Village

by raraavis

Sitges is seaside resort village outside of Barcelona. It's an hour by train. Tickets can purchased at the Barcelona train station through the vending machine. Sitges is a gay life hub. Nothing much to do other than sit on the beach, shop, and eat.
