More about Golden Donaire Beach Hotel
Just returned from the Golden Donaire Park Hotel. Although its early in the season this hotel had a lot to offer. The daily program was excellent with lots to do. The kids club gave my wife and I a break from our 9 year old and her a break from us. The food was good but mainly British. Lots of choices of food but good. The local bars were good but if you want to party go to Salou. A good family break we would return.
best holiday ever
hi. we have just come back from a 2 week stay at this hotel and we found it absolutely fantastic. we took our 5 children with us ranging from 5 to 15 and not once were any of them bored. the entertainment in the hotel is fantastic, both day and night. we did not need to go anywhere else as the entertainment was that good. the reps were wonderful and the hotel staff, especially the entertainment staff were fantastic.
the hotel was spotlessly clean and the maids work long and hard. the food was ok but we wouldnt say it was wonderful. its buffet style, and you could always make a meal with what was on offer.
the beach is just stride away which is ideal, and the pools are lovely and clean.
we have just booked to go back in august as we went in june and the season was only just beginning. would definately reccommend this hotel for families as the children had plenty to do all day long, right through into the evening.
We have just returned from a 2 week stay at the Golden Donaire Park Hotel in La Pineda and have to say that we had a great time there. The hotel is huge and the doorstep is right on the beach. The staff were all very friendly and spoke english very well. Overall the hotel was clean but our room was only cleaned properly a few times in the 2 weeks we were there. Our room was also on the small side for 3 sharing - I would say it was a double room with an extra bed squeezed in. The view from our balcony was stunning, looking right over the pool and along La Pineda beach. Only downside to that was the entertainment, which was on every night - whilst it was very good it was very loud and was on every night until midnight. A few earlier nights would have been better. The Thomson kids club was fantastic and all the girls running it were really friendly and good with the kids. The hotel also provided its own kids club but we didn't use it.
The food in the hotel was good - not excellent but overall a very good selection every night. Not as much choice if you are vegetarian though.
Good mix of nationalities at the hotel - predominantly british and eastern european. Not much of the tattoo brigade!
The Salou area as a whole is beautiful with the Port Aventura theme park nearby. We would highly recommend a visit to the theme park and also to the water park attached to the park. Fantastic entertainment and very clean.
Aquapolis is another waterpark in La Pineda and it is also very good. Slightly more expensive than the other water park but you can see a dolphin show and get your oicture taken with a sea lion.
You can also visit Barcelona easily from this area of Spain and we visited the Zoo this time - we by-passed the reps and booked it ourselves with the bus company at the nearest bus stop. That saved us roughly 50 Euros and it was the same trip. Would definitley recommend a trip to Barcelona if you can fit it in.
Would recommend use of the buses as they are very cheap and drivers all friendly. You don't pay for children under 4 on them and they are cheaper than the taxis.
A visit to Tarragona is also recommended but remember to keep your bag or wallet safe. Keep bags and phones on your person, don't put them down on a table if you are eating - we had a lucky escape.
La Pineda and Salou are very safe feeling resorts and there is a visible police presence in both resorts.
We will definitely return to this area in the future.
We have just returned from a week at the hotel, I went with my husband and 4 year old son. The hotel was great, we had a great view over the beach, which is only a step away from the front door. The food was okay, there was a full range of food to try, especially all those lovely deserts.
We had a 3 day pass for Port Aventura, which was great. I would recommend pre-booking the tickets as the queues were very long. There was plenty to do at the park, if you are not a thrill seeker like me, there a plenty of great shows to watch and more tamer rides!!
We also went to the Aquopolis, which is a 5 minute walk from the hotel, which is a must if you like watching dolphin and sea lion shows.
We enjoyed the holiday so much we a re thinking of going again next year.
Nice holiday, shame about the room
We had a bad start but it got better!
Upon arrival at the hotel we were told in no uncertain terms to "Put down our cases and go to dinner" which I found a quite abrupt & strange welcome - this was because the evening meal would stop being available shortly after, which I found out afterwards. We didn't have a meal because we'd had one on the plane, so checked in and found that our room was inadequately small for 3 people (myself, my partner, and his 12 year old son). We went to complain and was met with a rather obnoxious receptionist's reply of "There's nothing we can do - we are full". We were eventually advised to put our names down for a room change on Tuesday when many people were leaving, and were virtually promised a room change on that day. We went down to reception on Tuesday to see what the situation was, and was told the manager had decided on Monday that we weren't going to be moved into a larger room (even though there were plenty of larger rooms available). Nice of them to tell us! We found out later in our stay that couples were given much larger rooms than us, with pool views - which we'd requested at time of booking, but never got!)
This was the only problem we encountered at the hotel though.
We stayed half board. The food for breakfast and dinner was a buffet, with lots of variety, with regular changes (therefore guaranteed fresh & hot food). We did however have to pay for evening meal drinks, including water!
The beach was literally on the hotel's doorstep, with relatively safe and clean waters.
Aquopolis water park was only a short stroll along the seafront, where there was a show included in the entry fee, which is well worth seeing. Take a picnic though, the service at the food shacks was unbelieveably slow, and the food not great either.
If you're going to rent a car, go to Sol Mar - they are the cheapest BY FAR!!! (Less than £100 for a new Peugeot 307 for a week!)
If you've got men in your holiday party check out Nou Camp - FC Barcelona's football stadium. They'll love it!
I've put some photos on Trip Advisor too - check them out!
Would not go back
We have just returned back from this hotel and would never go back.
The area surrounding was lovely. with plenty to do and salou is only a short bus ride away.
We had a very small room which had cigarette burns on the bed sheets, mould in the bathroom and a stream of water running from the ceiling. We complained at reception about the water dripping from the ceiling as it was dangerous for our 7 year old son and was told it is the air conditioning and was perfectly normal. We had to lay towels on the floor and every time we went to get something out of the wardrobe we would get brown smelly water dropped on us.
The food was fantastic but having to queue for the dining room on several occasions was not acceptable.
There ar only about 120 sun beds so if you want one you have to get up at 7.00am to get one. The pool is tiny and full of abusive ill mannered children. My husband was told off by the life guard for sitting on the edge of the pool to splash himself with water (i think he was blocking the life guard view of the teenage girls doing the same thing).
The bar closed at 1.00am. The bar will sell you a drink at 12.50am and then the rude waiters will take it out of your hand at 1.05am and tell you to go to bed. There is no where in the hotel to sit and have a drink after 1.00am.
We met a couple in the hotel who had a 12 year old son and the waiters had been teaching him how to swear in spanish.
The entertainment at night was the worst i have ever seen and you had to contend with kids running round you and knocking your drinks over. We had the pleasure of watching one 11 year old child hitting all the others with a pool cue.
Every body we met in the hotel said they wouldnt go back.
The main problem in this hotel is the ill mannered children. My 7 year old son was hit a few times. We heard a rumour that Thomson are pulling out of this hotel and that really wouldnt surprise me.
hotel was ok
we thought the rooms and few were ace we had 4 rooms all the same they were clean.food was ok but paying for your water will it was not on.the pool was small.beach was ace ,nothing for kids from 12/17 to do .they need more sports thing for them to meet outher kids but over all this we all had an ace holiday as its what you make of it your selfs
Warning!! Not For Couples. Kids On The Rampage
This hotel should seriously come with a warning or a questionnaire.
Q1) Are you a parent going on holiday to get drunk whilst others entertain, look after or put up with your kids as they run riot?
Q2)Are you a child who wants 2 run riot while you parents get drunk?
If the answer to any of these 2 questions is yes then this is the place for you.
Otherwise you will detest this redicoulously noisy hotel.
Me and my girlfriend arrived late at night and realised that our room and balcony looked right over the kids entertainment stage. This on our first night was bad because were worn out and tired after a very long journey to reach the number 1 hotel in La Pineda.
It was bad because the noise from the kids entertainment was such that we could barely hear each other speaking, with or without the balcony doors closed.
To have a t.v in the room is surely someone's idea of a joke.
Simply, if you are up for the kids entertainment it's fab, if your not, then YOU'D BETTER PACK SOME EARPLUGS as THIS NOISE AND ENTERTAINMENT STARTS AT 8am AND ENDS AROUND 1.30am.
If you're in your room then you have no escape from this.
Also do not waste your time waiting on the lifts/elevators. This is because you will wait forever, then when one comes and you get in you will then understand why you've waited so long. All the buttons will have been pressed by an on the loose child and you will need to wait a while longer as the lift/elevator stops at all floors on route to the ground floor.
This hotel is good if you are parents (who like a tipple) going on holiday with your kids
This hotel is amazing if you're 6 years old.
It's geared for kids who want to run riot.
I swear one day children will have taken over this hotel and the only food you will see is in the buffet restaurant will be Rusks, jelly and ice cream.
beautiful and fun
This is by far the best that i have seen so far, it was my first trip away with my boyfriend and close friends, which was also the first time away from my parents the hotel is so beautiful and well layed out. reception was pleasent and polite and welcomed us with a smile, they were very quick at fixing a few problems in the room i was staying in as the wardobe door almost squashed me lol the light in the bathroom was flickering and needed changeing anyway and the shower was only giving out hot water, i put the complaint in at about 5 o'clock and by the time we went back up from the pool it was fixed at about 7 o'clock and i was very impressed by this. the view from the balcony was breathtaking as we were on the 7th floor and were facing the sea beach and part of the town, the pool was safe and had a lifeguard there at all times and the same on the beach with watchposts the childrens entertainment was great they were very friendly and helpful to all of the childrenthe bar was open serving food until about 9-10 at night and they serve drinks until 12. overall this is a wonderful hotel and i would visit it again but would have liked to be on a lower floor.
Very good of its type
Location superb - just next to lovely beach
Buffet breakfast & dinner very good
Service (reception, restaurant, cleaners) excellent & very helpful
Room ok - but certainly not de-luxe
Great for families with little kids
Good entertainment some nights
Lifts - insufficient at mealtimes
Overall - good value for money - very good for children & families who want a cheery beachside hol with entertainment - not best if you want quiet peaceful time - we had our 9 year old grandson who thought it was great.
Great places to visit:
- Tarragona (Roman amphitheatre, forum, etc + cathedral + rambla nova (cafes etc)
- Pobles monastery (still inhabited by monks)
- Montblanc medieval town
Platja del Miracle
Iris and Sam enjoying themselves at the playground
The Rombla Nova with its beautiful Buildings.
Festival Schedule and Events - 2003
I want to plan a holiday around August -- during the festival of St. Magi. Does anybody know the exact dates of this festival? Thanks !
Re: Festival Schedule and Events - 2003
I'm not sure about the date, it's about the 16th or 19th. If I can confirm it I'll tell you.
Re: Re: Festival Schedule and Events - 2003
thank you --
I believe the festival is on the 19th -- but I was wondering what other activities will take place prior to the 19th (e.g. concerts, fireworks, human towers, and parades).
Re: Re: Festival Schedule and Events - 2003
According to the city hall website is on August 19th. I've read in another site activities take place from 16th to 19th, but I could not find any schedule, I suppose it's to early. Try to ask same question again in a couple of month...
