Check out my Tarragona page. From Salou, it is probably easiest just to take the train to Tarragona. From the train station, the beach is ~10 minute walk. The station is almost on the beach, but to get there, you have to walk the long way around the station and a brick wall.

From the station, you could walk ~20 minutes or take a ~4 minute taxi to the Eroski shopping mall. (I honestly don't know the exact location of the bus stop)

I was also there in 2003. My work was outside, all day everyday. 4 of my workers were hospitalized for heat stroke that summer. Ugly month that was!!

I hope you enjoy your next trip!

Travel Tips for Tarragona

go to the beach...
there is...

by baserena

go to the beach...
there is just next to the touristic port a pretty and little beach. I really enjoyed that beach cause it's more quite and intimate of the bigger one and it's easilly reachable from the train station. What I'll never forget it's the colour of the sand. Tarragona it's along the COSTA DAURADA 'golden coast' and it' unbelievable but true.... it seems that some gold powder it's mixed to the sand so that the beach it's brightening and golden!!! It's so cool!!!

Passeig Arqueologic - Archaeological Promenade.

by Jerelis

When we first arrived by car at the city of Tarragona, we immediately saw a huge reconstructed medieval tower, which was part of the old city wall. All excited about the view we parked the car at the other side of the Old Town. Our intention was to walk our way back to the tower and see what it was all about. We entered the Old Town at its southwest corner, by way of the Via de L'Imperi Romá and the gate called Partal del Roser. When we stood in front of the gate we saw a seperate entrance next to it which lead us to the Passeig Arqueologic (Archaeological Promenade). We learned that this was a hike which took us around the outside of the walls and was probably the best way to see them. The hike would also take us to the medieval tower we spotted before, so we decided to do the hike.

The walls of the Old Town - most of which still stands; the missing sections were demolished by Napoleon's troups - show in microcosm the ages of the town's construction: rough Iberian blocks at the base, neater Roman work above that, and above that the refortification carried out by British troops during the War of the Spanish Succession (1704-1711). Have a look at Tarragona Packing List.

Museu de Fars (Lighthouse Museum)

by DSwede

Originally built in 1864, this lighthouse signaled the coast line north of Tarragona. Originally using olive oil lamps for light, it was updated with more modern times of fuels and gases. Dismantled in 1975 when a new light house was constructed. It was restored and relocated to Tarragona in 1984, where it currently signals the end of the Llavant Breakwater.

To get here, you can drive, walk or ride a bike. Simply go to the end of the Breakwater Wall/road that protects the port. The road begins just across the tracks from the train station, to the right of the restaurants by the beach.

Pretori Romý

by balieyes

The city of Tarragona during the Roman Empire was divided in two. On the hill where currently sits the Cathedral and the old district was the place where it used to be the monumental and administrative center of the city, with its many temples. In the lower part there used to be the Amphitheater, the forum and the harbor
