Best view ever, but....

This hotel may have been a four star back in the day, but certainly not now. While I agree the view of the ruins and the sea is as good as it gets anywhere.
The front desk staff ranges from rude to very friendly depending on who happens to be working.
To put it bluntly, the hotel is hopelessly outdated and in desparate need of standard maintenance. In my room, the carpet was old, there were loose and broken tiles on the bathroom floor. The toilet was loose. The shower head leaked and soaked the floor, and it had obviously been that way for awhile, because the door trim was warped from the water damage. The balcony light did not work.. I could go on, but you get the idea.
On the plus side, the breakfast buffet is exellent, and the food in the restaurant is quite good. I do recommend the duck.

If you stay there and have a car, make sure you get the parking reservations at 7.50 a day. If the lot gets filled up, finding parking is quite a challenge, and you will end up walking a distance back to the hotel.

I was in Tarragona on business. I will find a different hotel the next time I am in town.

Unique Quality: Perfect views.

A seaview at it's best

In October 2008, we stayed at the Husa Imperial Tarragona for a fabulous four nights stay, it is in a prime location over looking the sea and the magnificent amphitheatre. The rooms are modern and comfortable with a mini bar, hair dryer, in room safe. Staff were very helpful, and spoke adequate English. The highlight of the hotel was the magnificent breakfast, the light and airy breakfast room was adorned with tables of fresh and dried fruit, a choice of cereals, breads, pastries, cold meats and cheese, hot bacon, eggs, sausage, a variety of oils and sauces including the Catalonian Romesco sauce….delicious, and an abundance of fruit choices, teas and coffees.

Unique Quality: Fantastic sea and amfitheatre views if requested, fantastic surrounding neighbourhood views if you don't.

Centrally located to the historical sites

It might not be the cheapest hotel in the area, but it very centrally located to the historic sites, providing easy walking distance to many restaurants and attractions. Its view is spectacular if you get a room facing south, over the coliseum or beach.

The hotel however is rather old and in need of a bit of attention. The rooms can have a musty, damp feel to them and the beds in some rooms are a bit seasoned.

Stunning View of Sea and Sites

First things first - WOW!
The view from this hotel is breathtaking! See the picture if you don't believe me!

The ammenities were great and the hotel couldn't have been better situated.

We were given a tip that the weekend rate was lower then it should be for the quality of the hotel and it was - we got a suite (we asked for a double room and they had a suite available so they upgraded us free of charge without telling us) for 115 Euros (which included a buffet breakfast for two the next morning).

Unique Quality: - The most unique quality is the view.

- Second to that is the great room rates available on the weekends. It's used during the weeks by business people and is well set up for conferences, etc..., the travel guide we used told us they significantly reduce the rates on the weekend. This is true!

- Every room has a balcony.

- Breakfast was good and included in the room rate.

- It's very well situated to see the sites of the town and the sea.

- There is an outdoor pool

Lodging Suggestions

by GSL

I are looking for a quaint hotel within easy walking distance to restaurants, shopping, etc.. for 3-5 nights in Tarragona (early July). While I would love to have internet access, I would really prefer not to be in a typical business hotel; this is a vacation and am much more interested in a nice place with local charm. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

RE: Lodging Suggestions

The old part of Tarragona is a relatively small. It is also where most of the life of the city is. Everything is within walking distance.

SB Express hotel - 3 star, ~60+ EUR, internet, but is on the outer edge of city
Urbis hotel - 3 star, ~45+ EUR, near downtown
Husa Imperial Tarraco - 4 star, ~80+ EUR, best view and location

In all my time there, I never really found a 'quaint' hotel there. Most people who go there are on business. The average tourist would go a few kilometers farther to Salou or Cambrils.
