Re: public transport

Hi Sandra, you may be better taking the Plana bus into Salou and either catching the train or another bus to Tarragona. Ask the driver at the airport if there is a direct bus to Tarragona but I'm not aware of one. Fare to Salou is about 6 euro one way, Salou to Tarragona is about another 3 euro.

Travel Tips for Tarragona
The Ebre river
by Peret
The final part of the Ebre river goes trough the "Terres de l'Ebre", in the south of Catalonia. This is administratively in the Province of Tarragona.
The Ebre river is an seasonal river. This is, in spring is full of water, in a way that can do smoe inundations. In the summer, the river goes with very a little bit of watter.
This river have been very industrialised, but still you can enjoy his landscapes. If you like fishing, go to Ribaroja. There, a group of german who lives there, introduced the "Silurs", that can do two metters long.
Castellers: human towers.
by Jerelis
The province of Tarragona is famous for its 'casteller' festivals, in which teams of men stand on each other's shoulders in an effort to built the highest human tower (castell). Configurations depend on the number of men who form the base. Teams wear similar colours, and often have names denoting their home town. The small boy who has to undertake the peilous climb to the top, where he makes the sign of the cross, is called anxaneta (weathercock). Castellers assemble in competition for Tarragona province's major festivals throughout the year. In the wine town of Vilafranca the turn for Sant Felix (30 August) and in Tarragona city for Santa Tecla, its 'festa major' on the 23th of September.
Unfortunately we did not see any actual castellers in action, because we really would have liked that. But everywhere in the city of Tarragona we were pointed at this great tradition. We saw , for example, a beautiful street sign at Plaza de Santiago Rusinol and the bronze statue Monument als Castells, monument of the human tower at the Rambla Nova.
Visit the wine-country also
by Ekaterinburg
If you are returning to Barcelona from Tarragona, it's possible to make a very pleasant detour into the wine country of Catalonia. To do this you will have to break your journey at St Vicens de Calders
and take another train inland. This train goes to Sants station in Barcelona but in a very roundabout way. It chugs inland in a large arc that goes through several of the main wine producing towns. This is a very interesting journey with lovely countryside views as well as cameos of picturesque towns and villages. I got out at Vilafranca del Penedes and had a look round. The photo shows the winery there which is just directly opposite the station. this detour costs around EUR 6.
Roman amphitheatre
by Raimix
Ruins of Roman amphitheatre are located between the sea and old town of Tarragona. In old times here was a place for different kind of shows – gladiator flights, public executions, and so on. The structure was built in the 2nd century. Actually it is interesting enough, that later, in 7th century Visigoths built a church on an amphitheatre to commemorate a martyrdom of Saint Fructousus.
Amphitheatre is also famous for a longest Roman inscription found in who former region of empire.
Fractionally closer to the sky- Placa de la Palau
by Ekaterinburg
Though the cathedral is at the pinnacle of the hill there is a very short slope upwards of the cloisters which brings you to Placa de la Palau. This is definitely as high as you climb in the old quarter and if you carry on round the corner you begin to go downhill in the direction of Placa de la Forum. I decided to stop here and found a nice little perch shaded by a cluster of shrubs and very close to the old walls. So what's special about Placa de la Palau ? Nothing much really, apart from the view down to the cloisters and being in the shadow of the walls. It has lovely old sunwarmed buildings and at 2.00pm there was not a single other person in sight. Only sounds are a pigeon duet with a great bass warble and church bells striking the hour. Under my canopy of palms and yuccas I eat the sandwich my son had made for me this morning in Barcelona and think the dangerous thought, that 'this' is almost perfect.
