Port Aventura

Port Aventura is an exciting park where young and not so young will enjoy a cheerful atmosphere. It is near Tarragona, in the tourist resort of Salou. There are direct trains from Barcelona as well as buses.
The park consists on five sections: Polynesia, Mexico, China, USA Far West and Mediterranean. In each section you will find so many tourist attractions that even three days are not enough to explore them all. Some of my favourite attractions are the shows in Mexico with mariachis and lovely Guadalajara dances, then Dragon Khan, or an electrifying Russians Mountains, the Polynesian show with soft dances performed by artists from Tahiti, the parrots show, and especially the Far West, with the saloon duel and the cancan dances with young girls showing their legs.
In every attraction you can choose food from the five continents, fruits and many drinks, apart from nice souvenirs.
Without doubt, Port Aventura is a fiesta that you will never forget.

Want another day full of excitement? Go to COSTA DAURADA to PORT AVENTURA , the park of attractions, sort of Disney Land.
You may have plenty of fun trying different attractions in four thematic parts of Port Aventura - MEXICO, WILD WEST, CHINA and POLYNESIA . Besides, in each part you have a chance to watch folklore dances and to try national food. You'll get adrenalin at 'Dragon Khan' in CHINA, but the best attractions (to my taste) are in Polynesia. On photo: the stylized 'gallows' in Wild West part.

Good Hotel

Just spent a week at the Hotel Port Aventura, Salou. Happy with most of the hotel and facilities. The hotel has its own entrance/exit to the adjacent Universal theme park which was very useful. We stayed in a standard room which had a king size bed and a single. Room a decent size, clean and well maintained. Reception helpful, guest servies helpful. We stayed on a half-board basis. A good variety on offer for the buffet breakfast, although a bit hit and miss as to whether the hot food options were actually hot!. Similar experince in the evening dinner buffet on whether you were lucky enough to get hot food whilst it was still hot. The hotel offer a "Dine Around" option for evening meals whereby you get a voucher worth 16 euros per adult and 8 euros per child towards an a-la-carte meal in one of the 3 onsite restaurants or at the nearby El Paso hotel or at selected restaurants in the theme park (book in the morning via Guest Services desk for that night). By far the best of these restaurants was the Tex-Mex restaurant called El Coyote in the Hotel El Paso. We tried 2 of the 3 restaurants in the Port Aventura hotel. Port Regatta - food was good (mainly pasta or pizza dishes) but the service was atrocious. Pica Pica restaurant - poor food and poor service. Basically the waiters and waitresses in both restaurants just woudn't or couldn't deliver even the most minor request - Can we have 2 more glasses, can we have salt and pepper, my daughter wants no tomato sauce on her rice.
Evening mini-disco was geat fun for kids - they are allowed onto the stage to dance along with the entertainer.
Overall a good experince, we would go back again, but the service must improve in the a-la-carte restaurants.
Great stay, but cleanliness is an issue

We visited this hotel back during 2003, when it had only been open for 2 years. As it was a new hotel, we expected it to show, but unfortunately (I guess due to the many children staying in) you can already see pretty big and disgusting spill over stains on the carpeting in the hallways. The rooms are firnished as any kiddie welcome 4 star hotel. It was nice, but not luxurious. Breakfast is served at a certain time, and it was very pleasant, especially if you sit outside and enjoy the nice weather.
Just like with anyone in Spain, front desk were challenged with English - they knew it just enough to manage by, but otherwise were relatively responsive and nice.
The best thing about the hotel is its grounds - very lovely designed buildings, as well as pool areas. It was not too noisy or full of kids.
The other best thing is proximity to the Port Aventura amusement park - basically you walk out of the hotel and go into the park (all included in your stay price). The Park itself is a cheaper version of Island of Adventures in Orlando (which I have visited 4 times), but nevertheless I had a lot of fun. What I really found fun though, were all the shows (something I never thought i would enjoy). There was one Polynesian dance show - excellent and so captivating to watch, there was a Mayan dance show - same, a Bird show - interesting birdies doing fun stuff, and a great fireworks show (better than Disney) at the end of each night. Prices in the park are not bad, a dinner for two in a casual restaurant will be 40-45 EUR (3 yrs ago).
We visited once the neighboring town Salou - beach is nice, water was very pleasant and warm, of course it was no Maldives, but still very nice. The town itself is not very interesting - worth a visit just to see what it is like, but thats about it. We had a car so we rode there, but its really only a 5 min ride, so a cab shouldnt be an expensive option.
All in all, if you have children with you - this should be a great hotel to stay in.
Absolutely fabulous hotel and holiday!
by TripAdvisor Member ConfusedCJ
This was an absolutely fabulous hotel. We were a party of 2 adults and 2 teenage boys. From the minute we arrived at the hotel to the minute we checked out we found the staff to be excellent. The porters were extremely helpful and joked around with the kids which immediately set the scene for the rest of the holiday. The cleaners were friendly and very efficient, the room was very clean (as was the entire complex) and the reception staff were excellent. A few people on here have commented about the hot food not being so hot. Well, yes, this is true but I believe this is typical of Spanish food - something that didn't bother me because I don't like my food piping hot anyway. There was an excellent choice of food, however, always of an excellent quality and extremely fresh - it never ran out either and was regularly topped up. Although you are allocated a slot for breakfast the staff didn't seem to mind too much if you did use the other slot. Entertainment staff were great with the kids, particularly Said and Selena - Said had so much energy and was always doing his best to get the kids to join in with football and the mini disco, etc. Having it's own entrance to the theme park was a huge bonus and we made use of it every day except for twice when we were out on tours. Weekends are very busy with Spanish people arriving for day trips or weekend breaks (and who can blame them given how good it is!) but the weekdays are quieter so it's best to have at least one full day on the park during the week as you'll get on more rides. Drinks and snacks on the park were not as expensive as I would have expected - certainly better value than UK theme parks! This was also true in the hotel bars. The complex itself is beautiful consisting of low rise buildings set out like a mediterranean village and it is immaculately maintained. The pools were cold and sadly the largest of the two was closed during our stay although you could still make use of the sun loungers there if you wished. I could write loads more - it really is a great place and all I can say is go and see for yourself - you won't be disappointed. Oh yes, and it's extremely wheelchair (or pushchair!) friendly!!!!

Fantastic theme park, a real must-do. We've been a couple of times, both in the summer, and hardly had to queue for anything. Go on Dragon Khan, an amazing rollercoaster. Park is open till midnight some nights, and the food is very cheap and good compared to english theme parks. I've only been to Thorpe Park over her, Port Aventura is ten times better...

El Paso and Hotel Port Aventura?
RE: RE: Port Aventura

I didn't stay in the park hotels, so I can't tell you which one is better, but I do think it could be a good idea to stay on-site.
We got there when the park opened, and didn't leave until it closed - a good 14 hour day, so you may appreciate not having to travel far back to your accommodation at the end of the evening.
I thought it excellent value for money, and much better than the British theme parks.
Hope this helps
Abby

Prices for Port Aventura ?
by SJF
Does anyone know if it is cheaper to buy tickets for Port Aventura at the park or would we be better buying them before we go. I know that when we went before in October we got a second day free, but we didnt buy the tickets, as they were free with the holiday.
Thanks,
Suzanne.

Hi - I'm a little confused after visiting various web sites. Can anybody tell me whether Port Aventura theme park is open on the 24th, 25th, and 26th December 2007? Any further advice on best price for tickets would be greatly appreciated as I've been trawling for weeks!!!! CHEERS EVERYONE.

I was there a few weeks ago, just found a brochure, it says book a hotel at Port Aventura open 24th November - 6th January, but doesn't say if the Park is open. I think it will be limited opening.

Why wouldn't you believe the official website:
PortAventura Park
Opening Days*
December: 1-2, 6-9, 15-16, 22-31
Schedule*
Opens 10 am
Closes 7 pm
On holiday weekends, the park is open until later. We recommend looking at the schedule for the same week as your visit.
There is a detailed pdf file on the website to check individual days.
