Five stars all round

As the only five star in the centre of the city, the Amerigo is an accomplished affair.

It has been built out of the remains of a former monastry, although apart from the the courtyard area it would be difficult to recognise this fact. The rooms are well appointed and very modern in appearance without being cutting edge. I wouldn't stay here unless you like the colours beige and brown.

The hotel staff in their designer black outfits were helpful, and quite accomodating when I informed them how cheaply I could get one of their rooms on priceline. We didn't take breakfast in the hotel itself, as we preferred to eat in the nearby ramblas area.

Unique Quality: The rooftop pool is very impressive. It has a number of whirlpooly type jets and showers, togther with a spa and decking area for relaxation. Chilling out in the pool whilst looking out over the forest of television ariels and chuch bells to the Santa Barbara
castle beyond was blissful.

Great location, Great hotel

by TripAdvisor Member tooka

My husband and i recently returned from Spain. After reading comments on this site, we decided to book 2 nights at Hospes Amergio. It was WONDERFUL. This is modern hotel minutes away from the beach and many many great restaurants. The hotel is also minutes away from the major tourist attraction at night...the chekared boardwalk full of restaurants, local musicians, and local merchants. This is a Very clean hotel with helpful staff, and a great shower head!! The breakfast buffet was a bit expensive, and we never did eat at the hotel, but the hotel is so centrally located that there was no problem. We definetly recommend Alicante for all the beach lovers and of course Amergio. Amazing. You will not regret.

Fantastic Hotel in Alicante

by TripAdvisor Member fhennessy

My girlfriend and I recently stayed for 6 nights in the Amerigo. I booked it mainly on the strength of the other reviews on tripadvisor and from the photos on the hotel website.

This is a fantastic hotel and fully deserves it's 5 star rating. I cannot understand the reviewer who complained about the rooms and gave the hotel 3 stars. The rooms are large for such a well located hotel and come with plasma TV and DVD player. Bring DVD's and CD's as the only English stations are news (Sky, BBC, CNN)

There are also bathrobes and slippers along with good quality shampoo, conditioner, body wash etc. There are also free soft drinks available from the minibar. The airconditioning is very good but can be adjusted if too cold.

The pool area is lovely however if you go up early they may not yet have put out the towels. The pool bar seemed to be staffed from about 11.

The staff in the hotel were second to none. The spoke good english and were helpful. They have no problem with you staying by the pool of the hotel after you have checked out and there are storage areas upstairs for your belongings.

I have stayed in various grades of hotel and do believe that this merits both its five stars and its place as at the top of the tripadvisor list. I would not stay anywhere else if going to Alicante.

Cool if a bit loud !

Just had 7 nights in the cool Amerigo. with out a doubt this is a gem in Alicante, with fantastic rooms , pleasant cheerful and helpful staff, excellent food ( in the Tapas Bar ) and a very relaxed atmosphere.

Be warned that if your deal doesnt state breakfast that this can come to a costly sum by the en of your week.

The hotels roof top swimming pool area is nice but the bar prices are probably the highest in Alicante.

The only waring I would give potential travellers is that if your room is on the Calle Mayor side then you will expereience noisy evenings and early mornings especially from the residnets of the Hostel Mayor.

the wonderful array of toiletries could do with ear plugs adding to prevent disturbances from the late night revellers and to also stop you hearing the constant sound of accordian players players!

Almost perfect

by TripAdvisor Member nonamefits

Excellent hotel in excellent position.

Perhaps the pool is more suited to cooling down than serious swimming.

There was building work going on adjacent to the rooftop area so that was both noisy and meant there was a lack of privacy.

The previous reviews were quite right - highly recommend the hotel and the town for a short break.

Do walk up to the castle area and appreciate the landscaping on the way up and the exhibitions at the top.

Wonderful gem of a hotel

We stayed 10 nights at the Hotel Amerigo in mid-August, arriving exhausted from work. The first pleasant surprise was the short and cheap taxi ride from the airport, and it only got better. The bright and airy hotel foyer and friendly staff (most of whom speak better English than I speak Spanish) were a welcome sight and the room was a delight, that is until evening and early morning. Facing the main street the noise in our room was overwhelming. If you intend to lie in or go to bed before midnight you must request a room facing the internal courtyard, which we did. As dedicated foodies we ate out all over Alicante and we found the hotel restaurant to be the very best in the city. The more casual tapas bar is also worth a visit. For excellent, simple and fresh fried fish we loved the cafe Pescador (sp?) overlooking the marina (don't miss the fried anchovies - boqueron fritos). However, the allegedly leading restaurant Darsena (also in the marina) seems to be resting on its laurels, with the most unfriendly service and inedible food we encountered in our entire stay. If you want a treat, book a table at El Bocaito. Back at the hotel, the roof-top bar, pool and sun-loungers offered a cool hang-out and the short tram ride to San Juan beach delivered the perfect Spanish beach. Alicante itself was charmingly Spanish (i.e. not overrun with Brits). Suffice it to say we are already planning our return visit to the hotel and the city and cannot recommend it highly enough.

Best hotel ever

If you go to Alicante book this hotel though it can be difficult to find by car! The location is fantastic, more than excellent service and the hotel rooms/facilities are beyond comparison. We stayed here 4 nights and enjoyed the clean, tranquil, modern room with facilities like DVD player, free Internet access/soft drinks in the minibar and top class amenities. The pool area is absolute luxury with a breathtaking view and the waiter there was a real highlight. We are going back in October.

Location, location, location

Stayed for 2 nights. Perfect location for the old town, marina that has many restaurants, shopping and castle. Not easy to find if arriving by car due to road closures and the one-way system but they do have an underground car park which is very useful (charge of 15 euros per day + tax). Rooftop swimming pool and sundeck are overlooked by the building site adjacent (5 metres away) and sunbathing could provide endless amusement for the builders!

Rooms well appointed (LCD TV etc) and bathroom was nice with high-end toiletries. Only niggle was the uncontrollable aircon (we are not technically incapable either) that caused us to change rooms as we were frozen. The second room was fine for the first night but the aircon seemed to be sulking the second night despite no intervention by ourselves and was rather hot overnight. Although the surrounding streets were quiet at night during our stay at the end of October, we could could see why previous correspondents have mentioned getting a quiet room overlooking the internal atrium, although the double glazed windows were very good at attenuating noise. Didn't use the hotel restaurants as Alicante has so many from which to choose. As we only wanted a coffee + tostado for breakfast we skipped the hotel breakfast (35 euro for 2) and popped into the Pikaduro neighbourhood cafe opposite which was welcoming and cost us 3 euro! However, I should imagine that the hotel breakfast was probably extensive and very good if thats what you need.

Overall, a brilliantly located hotel that has been very well designed. Staff were friendly and helpful as well. I just wish the aircon would have functioned to our satisfaction!

Great service, location and trendy

by TripAdvisor Member bjorkebo73

My parents and I stayed here for one night. The hotel has a garage that costs 15 Euro which is reasonable price. Welcoming from staff was excellent volontered to help us with anything and also telling us about the city and gave good advice about what to see and do and where. Really friendly. We went to our rooms which both looked excellent, beautifully decorated, orchids, bathroom also good with a rain shower and bathtub, two washbasins, clean. Bed comfortable. But it was 26.5 celsius in the room way too hot and AC was not working so we switched to two other rooms one equal to the previous ones but the other one 316 was almost like a single room in size not comparable at all to the other 3 rooms we saw. In the new rooms it was cooler but still the AC was not working. I complained about the size of 316 and after all the problem with AC i got a free upgrade to a larger room. That room was great but still no AC but 21 C so the temperature was ok. The staff handled these issues in a very professional manner. But beware of room 316. The other rooms we saw that was excellent was 106 (the upgrade room), 302, 318, 319 which all i can recommend.

Next morning i wake up at 0730 and the water was lukewarm, i had shower on for 5 minutes in hope of hotter water but no improvement. I also tried the bathtub and the washbasin but still no hotwater. My father came by and he had the same problem. We went down to reception and complained and went out for breakfast and while we had breakfast they checked the water and for some unknown reason it was now hot again. Strange. One of the staff accompanied me to the room and i could also feel that the hot water was back.

Free internet, nice lobby with a bar and their tapas bar Senzone was really good, we had their daily menu for 15 Euro and it was excellent so go and eat there! The spa of the hotel is located on 4th floor with a pool, sauna and sun deck beautiful!

To sum up professional staff, excellent! Beautiful hotel, excellent location close to everything in Alicante, gourmet tapas bar, free internet, high quality beauty products, nice bathroom, comfortable bed. But our unluck with water and AC makes this hotel only a 4 star from me. If i were to ignore these problems that we had this is definately a FIVE star hotel. Excluded these problems one of the better hotels i have stayed in.

Loved this hotel

by TripAdvisor Member Lee38

I stayed at this hotel for two nights with a friend and we had a lovely time. The hotel is beautifully styled and the staff on reception were very friendly. Our room over looked the courtyard and was nice and quiet. The bathroom is absolutely gorgeous - double sinks, a big bath and a lovely shower. I've never seen so many yummy toiletries either and they restocked them on our second day which was an unexpected bonus.

There is a small indoor pool on the roof with great views over the church roof tops. The pool opens onto decking where you can sit out in the sun. There is a spa on the roof too and a male and female sauna. We didn't have any treatments at the spa but it looked nice. We did enjoy using the pool though and were lucky enough to have it all to ourselves on both days. We took up a bottle of champagne in an ice bucket from room service and relaxed by the pool - great way to destress.

We didn't eat breakfast at the hotel but we did eat in the adjoining tapas bar one evening. There were lots of different dishes to choose from that all tasted great and the wine was lovely and reasonably priced.

The hotel is in a great location - minutes from the sea front and lots of good bars and restuarants. It was a very cheap drive from the airport too - only 12 euros.

I loved this hotel - we had such a relaxing time and I hope to go back again one day.
