That was my fault for assuming you will be going from the airport. You can get a tram into Benidorm. Details are here for you :

The old "trenet" has been replaced by a modern tram.
There is a tram Alicante-Benidorm every half an hour from Mercado (Central Market, at the city center). It takes 1h 9'. Be careful, take LINE 1.

In september schedules might change, but current departure times from Alicante are 5:44 to 21:44, every 30 minutes. From Benidorm, from 6:35 to 22:05.
The price is 3.15 €, 5.40 € with return.

by DanielF

This impressive fortress crowns the Mount Benacantil, the craddle of the city. The first human settlements known in Alicante were located in the slopes of this mount. All the ancient civilisations of the Mediterranean sailed in these waters and some of them, Phoenicians and Greeks, even established themeselves in the vicinity. But, the Romans were the people that founded Lucentum, giving thus birth to the city of Alicante.

The mount Benacantil provided a strategic location that allowed an easy defense ot the city and its port. A free of pirates and invaders Mediterranean have turned the fortress into a public espace with contemporary sculpture exhibitions, gardens and the best view of the city and its port.

The Beaches in Benidorm. There are 2 different beaches separated: the LEVANTE beach (LEVANTE means: where the sun comes up) and the PONIENTE beach (PONIENTE: where the sun goes down).
Just walk to 'el Castillo', where you have a great view over both beaches.

PUERTA DEL MAR SQUARE

by Hosell

This is a picture taken at Puerta del Mar Square. It is located between Postiguet Beach and La Explanada Garden. In Alicante you'll find a lot of rounds squares like this one.In that one there is a beautiful fountain and also in others apart of fountains you'll find some nice sculptures.
Really this is the "Heart of Alicante" and one of most visited areas of the city, because it is next also to the harbor and sea promenade.
