Alicante to Barcelona

by smallzoo

OK I know its a bit late but we are flying into Alicante this Saturday 9th and flying out of Barcelona on the 17th spending one night in Barcelona on the 16th. There are 7 of us so I had planned to hire a 7/9 seater car and use it for the holiday and then drive to Barcelona. Lo and behold the hire companies that I had provisionally booked with ALL came back with no availability for a 7/9 seater !! SO.... other than have the pain of hiring two cars can anyone either suggest a hire company or another cheap way of getting to barcelona. When I did a quick check it looked like £483 for the train and £500 for a plane !!

the train trip costs from 46,6 euros to 83,20 (depending on the train) and it takes aprox 5 hours.
by plane, with clickair, there're 2 flights available on the 16th and four on the 15th, from 56,29 euros (71,29 incl taxes). also from 54 euros on
i wouldnt go by bus. it's cheaper but the bus trip to barcelona is a pain (for some reason that route is worse than travelling to other cities like madrid, etc)
i did a searcg on and found 7 seater cars available for the 16th (86€). didnt go further than that but you may want to check.

good luck!

Travel Tips for Alicante

Walk around the town.

by Beach_dog

Walk around the town. I have a fascination for Spanish cities, always so much happening in there centers. Try sitting at the pavement cafe's and just watching the world go by or just walk around. Beware of traffic though, it can be treacherous. As with any Spanish town or city, it pays to just walk throught it, after seeing the main streets go and explore the backstreets. Many surprises will await you with the quaint architecture and daily life of the inhabitants.

The main nighlife is in the main Square where you will find, bars, karioke bars, clubs and discos open till the small hours.
There are people on the door who try to drag you into their club first but do not let them push you around, go into whichever one you want.
A lot of the clubs (Hippodrome) have themed nights where strippers are coming in. Smart casual

Hogueras de San Juan (June 20th Bonfire Fiesta)

by s_odyssey

The highlight of my holiday...
There are huge papier maché statues set up all across the village depicting the humoristic side of well known politicians and characters in Spanish history .
I don't know if the festivities begin the same way each year, but when I was there we all gathered in front of the church in the old village, at the count of midnight, the first statue was lit, and because it gets incredibly hot, everyone starts singing ''Aqua'' to get the firemen's attention to hose you and your friends down. Even the locals get involved, it is common to find yourself screaming and singing underneath balconies to get the same reaction except this time they are using huge buckets.
The villagers were very charming and were delighted to share this tradition with so many different people.
The children with firecrackers on the sidewalk, these immense works of art all around you, superb fireworks and people to meet beyond your wildest expectations!
We had a fantastic time.

A must see whilst visiting...

by Ricardo-Juan

A must see whilst visiting Alicante / Javea is the secluded bay at 'Grandella'
This bay has been the site of many a smugglers import, with its shallow waters and sheer cliffs it is invisable from the open sea. It is ideal for novice divers, and pedestrian site seers.

Marble pavement

by DanielF

There are several marble quarries in the region around Alicante. The pavement of the Expolanade of Spain could not be done of other material, of course.

Inspired in the waves of the Mediterranean sea, it is formed by millions of marble tesselas in marquina black, alicante red and ivory cream colours.
