Re: donde?

Hi, get a bus from Elche and the bus station in Alicante is right in the centre of town. When you leave the bus station there are two parallel streets on either side of the bus station which are called calle pintor aparicio and calle portugal you can take either street and head upwards towards the centre of the city (the road should have a very slight inclination upwards I think), keep going straight until you reach Avenida Maisonnave which is about 3 or 4 streets upwards. This is the big shopping street in Alicante which has all the shops. If you go left on this street you´ll find the big el corte ingles which sells perfumes, clothing, toys, etc., however, if you follow avenida Maisonnave to the right you will find the small el corte ingles (still about 5 floors high) which sells music, DVD´s, furniture, electrodomestics, etc. I wouldn´t bother going to another of the other corte ingleses as they are just spin off discount or convenience stores, not worth it. They have so much stuff, although sometimes a little pricey. Anyway, on this street you´ll find all of the other shops also, just off this street beside the big el corte ingles there is a fountain and if you turn right there are some show shops and up the street to the left is the train station. This area has a lot of little bars and restaurants also, if you are hungry and you like tapas, there are two great little restaurants just off maisonnave called "Tapelia" and "Katagori", I can´t remember which street they are on, but it could be pintor aparicio or portugal, but it is definitely one of the streets that comes down off maisonnave, and there is only a little distance between the two on the same street. Enjoy!

I you come to Alicante by train, cross Avenida de Salamanca and walk down, you will find the big Corte inglés (clothes, shoes, bags, perfums) after the first corner (Avenida de Maisonave). If you look for the other one (furnitures, whites, music, books) turn left and follow Avenida de Maisonave to the end.

Travel Tips for Alicante

The three Wise Kings

by DanielF

Spanish children are so lucky that they receive their Christmas presents in two different days. The tradition used to be that presents were brought to the children by the three Wise Kings on the night of 5 January. Nowadays, Santa Claus has become popular too, and it is usual to make presents on the Christmas night.

But the emotion of watching the parade of the three kings, leaving a glass of milk for them and a bit of straw for their camels, cannot be replaced, for sure...

In Benidorm you have more than enough choice of restaurants with international food, which tastes general very good to rahter good prices for Europe..but try to get some local specialities which you better find outside of Benidorm

The Castillo de Santa Barbara...

by la_beba

The Castillo de Santa Barbara is one of the largest medieval fortresses in Europe. It occupies the entire summit and a large proportion of the slopes of the Benacantil mountain. It commands a unique look-out over the coastline, the Bay of Alicante and the surrounding farmland. Remains from the Bronze-age have been discovered on this site. The castle has three enclosures of differing dates, each with unique features. The castle can be accessed by a road leading up the western slope of the mountain, winding it's way through pine trees..... or for a small fee take the elevator from the entrance in front of the beach.

El barrio

by Christina1881

El barrio is the old neighbourhood in Alicante and has with it's narrow streets and old buildings a nice area to go for a walk.
El barrio is mainly known for it's high number of bars and discoteques, but also by daytime it's a nice place to go for a walk to enjoy the beauty of the arquitecture.

PANORAMIS SHOPPING CENTER

by Hosell

Another nice place to spend the time and have some fun is the Shopping Center called Panoramis.I added some more information in Shopping Tips.It is located just next to the harbour, and here you'll find some nice restaurants, shops and a multicinema.
During my last visit to Panoramis,I saw this beautiful sailboat just next to main entrance of Panoramis. This is also a nice place to make some nice pictures of the city and harbour.
