Charming hostal that is better than a hotel!
We stayed for one week: lovely comfortable individual room, perfectly clean, good air conditioning, inexpensive mini-bar, lovely decor. Definitely recommended. The large suite is worth the €60 per night price. Best value in Alicante!
Unique Quality: The rooms are individual and each is decorated differently. Hostal is in the middle of the "Old Town" and close to the Rambla and all facilities. Just a few minutes walk to the beach. Although the weekends are busy outside close to the small bars, our double glazed windows kept our room quiet.

Cosy and Well Preserved Lodging
The hostel Les Monges («The Nuns») is located in El Barrio, the very heart of town, few meters away from the Town Hall. The building was created in 1912 and after a series of works, in 1989 it became a cosy little hostel. It shows the genuine, the simple and beautiful Mediterranean architecture. Inside Les Monges you'll find uncountable art pieces created by local artists like Ignacio Chillón or Morán Berruti. The hostel is family owned and their attitude towards the customers is always kind and warm.
Unique Quality: The hostel in within an area damaged by pubs and uncontrolled nightlife and from Thursday to Saturday sleeping between 3.00 and 4.30 am is almost impossible, specially if your windows lead to the street of San Agustín. At this moment, drunk noisy people usually move from El Barrio to El Puerto and they usually talk aloud, making really difficult to sleep. Les Monges nowadays counts on eighteen rooms but watch out! --> reservations are extremely recomended. The spot appears in tons of travel guides and it's usually full. For regular rooms, air conditioning increases the price 5 euros per night. You may want to know as well that you can have a yummy breakfast for 5 euros (it includes juices, milk, coffee, bread, croissants, etc). As a final point, you may want to check out the suite but it costs twice as a regular room and it contains few reasons to justify the 90 euros they charge (okay , it includes a mini-jacuzzi within the room). If you want to impress someone, just try room 8 instead.

A real gem
Situated in the heart of the old Town right behind the Town Hall, this is a real gem. At just 39euros a night it's a real bargain. OK there's no breakfast included but there are several places nearby for desayuno at only 2 or 3 euros each.

The rooms are a bit small but have everything you need. There is a mini-bar in the room and they don't overcharge - 1 euro for a beer and only 3 for a whisky.
In the reception there is coffee available 24 hrs a day for the princely sum of 1 euro.
Unique Quality: The building dates from 1912 with antique furnishings and paintings although it was not until 1989 that it was converted into a hotel.
If you look on the web you may be confused as there seem to be 2 hotels: les Monges Palace in Calle S. Augustin or Les Monges in Calle Monjas. In fact they are the same - it's just that they changed the entry door round a couple of years ago. It is now known as Hotel Les Monges Palace in Calle S. Augustin.
Our room had a Moroccan theme with moorish tiles in the bedroom and blue and white tiling in the shower room.
There is a suite with jacuzzi available at about 85 euros.

Our Alicante accomodation
We found this pensione in the "Let's Go, Spain" travel book, and booked two nights from Vancouver. Once we were there, we extended our visit to about a week. It was a very quaint spot, in the older part of town.
Unique Quality: Close to the ocean, shopping, marina. Very nice place.
