A view from any window
The hotel is part of the conference area in Alicante, and on first glance appears to be part of the rather massive 4-star Hotel Melia complex. It's not, it's just attached. In fact it would make mores sense if the star-rating were reversed. The Spa Porta Maris is a three-star aiming to be four, whilst the Meila is a 4-star in name only, resting on it's laurels.
The stylish entrance area to the Spa Porta Maris features giant picture windows over the sea and a trendy cafe. My only gripe was that standard rooms did not include free entry to the swimming pool area.
After looking around a number of hotels in the area, I would say that the couple of nights spent here were probably the best value for this comfort level. The hotel is also well placed for the port area with all it's new restaurants and bars.
Unique Quality: Great views from EVERY hotel room. One side looks out over the beach and ocean, the other over the newly re-juvenated port/marina area.
