The Lady Of Suffrage
The legend tells that in the year of 1740 a floating ship was towed ashore off the Benidorms beach, Playa Poniente. The crew had died in a mysterious way. So the ship was burnt down for fear of contamination by the plague.
When cleaning the ashes and looking for nails a small, wooden figurehead got uncovered, all intact from the flames. It was named Our Lady of Carmen. People thought it was a miracle and named her later "Our Lady of Suffrage", and has been worshipped ever since.
See the plaque with the Lady on the side wall of the San Jaime Church ...
