hotel regente benidorm

Stayed at the Regente 9th to 16th May 2006. On first day were warned about a bug going around the hotel . We were only there a week but in that time my husband, myself and our son did come down with it, as did numerous other people whilst we were there. The hotel did provide hand wipes for everyone to use before going into the dining room but you still did see some uncouth people taking food with their hands instead of using the utensils. It could have been food poisoning but also someone could have gone out there with gastroenteritis which is airbourne and spreads rapidly.

Anyway back to the hotel, it was clean and the maid service was excellent, clean towels every day. The food was better than some hotels we have been to, there was quite alot of choice, but as someone else mentioned, there's chips with everything although they do something imaginative with pork everyday! The pool was clean but as everywhere, there was the usual race in the morning for a sunbed, even though there wasn't a German in sight! The walls are very thin and unfortunately you can hear everything, so take your earplugs if you are next door to a snorer.

The hotel is well situated for all amenities, not on top of all the discos, so you are not kept awake all night by the music, but within 5 minutes walking distance of the beach. There are shop and bars across the road to the hotel but cannot be heard from your room. We will definitely go back to Benidorm but not necessarily to this hotel.

Stayed here for a 2 week break 10th-24th sept.My mum myself and two children.Fantastic hotel, great food, very clean ,friendly staff what more could you want.Only negative i could say is the entertainment could be better, but is close by to everything so wasnt really a problem.

i didn't stay at the regente but family members did.i stayed at the halley apartments down the road.I went to the hotel in the day for drinks, sunbathing and a dip in the pool and at night for the entertainment and sexy staff!will stay there next year!Lovely food, good choice.

not up to much

by TripAdvisor Member carl1955

We stayed here for a long w/end (seemed longer) in dec05, cheap deal from Portland Direct (you get what you pay for) hotel ok, clean, staff fine, food poor quality with not much choice (chips with everything) entertainment poor. If your idea of dressing for dinner is trainers, tracky bottoms and a football shirt, you'll feel at home here, it's not rated a 2* for nothing.

Food hygiene at the Regente

by A TripAdvisor Member

Stayed at the Regente 2 weeks March 2006 and both my wife and myself were very ill with food poisoning, as were many other guests. Food hygiene in the restaurant and kitchen could have been better, for example the sloppy ice cream. Thompson rep not that helpful and says "its a virus". ????
We are definitely not going back and cannot recommend this hotel

Good until we both became very ill

by TripAdvisor Member keren29

As per other reivews, we stayed at the Regente and both of us were extremely ill for 48 hours.

There is a lot of D+V in Benidorm over the winter, but after doing a bit of searching, it does seem quite prevalent at the Regente and if I'd known that I'd probably have booked somewhere else. Lemon hand wipes were provided at the dining room two days after we were ill, but these are useless as they don't kill the bugs (I work in a large hospital so do know about what is needed). The rep was pretty useless -'oh, have you been ill as well' , but it probably all stems from a mixture of poor kitchen hygiene mixed with the large influx of people passing it around the hotel. There were about 30 other people ill on the same day we were according to the rep.

Ok, that over, the hotel. We were facing the street rather than the pool, but this was fine as it was a quiet side street overlooking some gardens. The room was clean and functional - kind of like a Travel Lodge style hotel.. Bathroom large. Maid changed towels daily and the bathroom was extremely well bleached each day after we were ill!!!!

Rooms do have thin walls, the lady in the next room had a terrible cough, and I dread to tthink what the neighbours thought whilst we were unwell.

The food is more than edible, loads of it, not exactly gourmet cooking, but it was stuff like paella, coq au vin, beef goulash, pork in white wine etc etc . Lots of chips, but also salad bar. Not much in the way of fresh veg. Breakfast excellent - as much english breakfast as you can eat as well as toast, cereal, cheese and ham, and fruit. just a pity I missed out on half the week's meals - but I lost 5 pounds so a good result in a way!

Good location - 5 minutes from the beach, it is right on the east side of the Levante beach. The Hoxton opposite has a good local lager at 70p a pint. My OH was in football heaven as it is on at every bar, every night .

Pool is good - excellent for any children and didn't get crowded - in fact everybody had left the poolside by 5.30 each day.

The chinese restauarant next door is unbelievable value - set meals for two at less than £5 ahead with a drink and dessert thrown in!

Hotel reception staff are a little curt, but not rude. didn't spend much time in the hotel bar, but there is bingo on each night, followed by a singer/comedian then karaoke or a little disco until about 12.30.

I've booked flights for next March and, i'd go back again. not sure whether to risk it or not with the bug if it is a regular winter thing at the Regente as I wouldnt wish that on my worst enemy!

Best value in town

by A TripAdvisor Member

I stay at the Regente twice a year March and November 4 weeks at a time, and have done so for a number of years now. Ok its not the Ritz, but the rooms are clean, laundry changed every day and bathroom well cleaned every day as well. The dining room I have always found to be clean and staff around to change linen after one's left , I did hear tell that some one complained about dirty knives and forks etc. I personally have never seen this. The hotel had a recent makeover, not the lounge area I might add. Sure theres been some problems with V&D. but to be fair is this the hotels fault. I have seen many people using the toilets adjacent to the dining room and 75% never wash their hands, no wonder theres germs about. I also suffered the dreaded V%D as did my wife, not pleasant but I saw the local health department doing a hotel check, which was cleared with flying colours...My main gripe is the lack of fresh vegetables most are tinned. Chips are on the menue every day.who forces you to eat them?
I shall be back again in November...keep me away if you can...cheap and cheerful is what yopu pay and what you get..(Vincent take note..smile a bit).

love the regente

by A TripAdvisor Member

i have stayed in the regente several times 3 times in last 6 months oct 2005 may 2006 and june 2006. my family have never been ill. the food is plentiful and good choice. there is something for everyone even little children. my daughter is 7 and has stayed 5 times and loves it the kidzone staff are great. if you do have a problem the staff usually deal with it very quickly. if you want 5star pay 5star prices. the only germs going round the food are probably the children and adults who use their fingers to get food instead of the utensils. i have stayed in 4star plus and have found the food and service tobe no better. the hotel is very clean with towel change every day. i have just come back from the regente after talking my 72 mother and 7 year old daughter there was food for everyone and some entertainment for everyone. victor is great the kids love him. some people just cant be pleased. keep up the good work

Great holiday for all the family

by A TripAdvisor Member

We stayed at the Hotel Regent from May 30th - June 13. We were a family of 5 of mixed ages and we had one of the best holidays we ever had. Some people said they were ill becuase of the food but we ate the food every day and had no problems at all. There was a great choice for adults but not much for the younger chidren. Th staff were great though the rep was hard to find, luckily though we didnt need her. The entertainment was average but the entertainer victor was a great guy who we keep in touch with now. We are already planning to book to go back to the hotel for new year. The pool was great and the hotel location was great, as not to close to night life but close enough. We liked to thak victor and the manager for a great holiday, see you very soon!!

BENIDORM/CALPE - APRIL 6TH - APRIL 12TH

by edbews

Hi, hope someone can help us. We own a villa in Calpe that we rent out to tourists ( www.exclusive-calpe-villa.co.uk)
We have only owned the villa for a short while and only been to Calpe 4 times (Always villa hunting!) Can someone tell us what the weather is like in the first 2 weeks of April. Will it be sunny? Also where can we find this Sticky Vicky lady we keep hearing about and are there any great clubs in Benidorm.
Thanks
