there are loads of good places - what do you like doing?

i like aqualandia the best (massive big water park - but it's only open summer)

terra natura is nice too.

a nice day out is to guadalest and to altea. nice little towns nearby.

you could also go to the markets if you fancy a bit of shopping.

nearest is la cala (number 5 bus on fridays)

or altea - buT EVERYONE GOES THERE (on a tuesday - number 10 bus).

Alfaz is nice - try the beach there

Benidorm is a lively, commercialised tourist hot spot with loads of activities to suit all types.

"Downhill bike ride through the hills"

This is great fun and is almost a whole day out and you get a certificate to prove that you did it. They cleverly write everything in english to say how far you rode, but put the "downhill" bit in spanish so all of your friends and family will never know the truth!

The organisers pick you up in Benidorm and tell you about the local area as they drive you up into the mountains.

The ride starts off at a little "zoo" in the mountains. Beware of the monkeys if you go outside. As I recall there weren't many animals and it was quite disappointing.

The ride starts off on the flat to get used to the bike and the terrain and then there is a stop for lunch back at the zoo. The ride is mostly on dirt roads while you are amongst the trees.

Lunch is in the zoo restaurant. We all had the recommended dish and it was delicious.

After lunch the fun really starts. You ride down from the zoo through the pine forests, passing through a little village on the way. The day we went they were having a fiesta in the streets and it was great fun riding through the party.

The road can be really steep and windy, but if you are nervous you can take your time. Also if you get tired or scared, you can jump back in the van anytime.

After a while you join a tarmac road where the road is flatter and a lot less windy. This is where all the children took off and left the adults way behind.

The last stop is along this road where you can get a nice cool drink and collect your certificate before you are returned to Benidorm.
