Visiting for our Honeymoon this week...
by desileigh
Hello!
My husband are coming for our honeymoon this week (March 27th) and we're in need of some suggestions. We want to rent a car for the week and have found 2 rental agencies--Victoria and Do You Spain. Is anyone familiar with either one? Can you suggest another? We're staying at a resort in Calpe, but we fly into Alicante and wanted to have a way of getting to and from the airport and around to sightsee. Form what we read, the taxi ride from the airport to the resort is around $100US. Car rental seems cheaper. We'd also love some advice on what to see and where to go while visiting.
Anything you can offer would be greatly appeciated!!
Sincerely--Desiree

Hi Desiree
We went to Calpe a couple of years ago. On a personal basis we don't like driving in Spain but I have to admit that it was an expensive taxi ride from the airport to Calpe. If you are staying for longer than a week I think it's worth hiring a car. At least they drive on the same side as you guys. Going back we asked in a bar and paid an ex pat to take us back to the airport for half the price.
We have been to Spain lots of times and I must admit I was a bit disappointed at first with Calpe but after a couple of days came across the old town. Its up a hill from the beach and through an archway. Easy to miss! Once we had found that we thoroughly enjoyed the hol and would go back. Think it would be worth hiring a car - the local transport isn't brilliant and there is some lovely scenery. It was our main regret that we didn't.
Altea is a lovely town and worth going. There are plenty of boat trips along the coast. I would avoid Benidorm. I would seek out the tourist info and ask their advice.
The old town has some lovely restaurants. Have a great time.

Travel Tips for Calpe
Calpe from Viewpoint

AS we left Calpe on the road to Altea we saw a sign with a camera on it indicating a viewpoint. So we drove up a road that led us through some beautiful villas .It took about 10 minutes and we reached the top and found a car park and a picnic area.We parked up and saw a hill with pine trees and a road and a walk sign.Im pretty certain this area was called Cape Morro de Toix.It was a sunny late afternoon and we decided to walk up and see the views. The road wound round through trees and there were some beautiful wild flowers in bloom and some broom in bloom too.
It took about 15 minutes to find the first viewpoint and it was worth the walk.We had impressive views of all of Calpe and its beautiful rock.It started spitting with rain but the pine trees gave us shelter and we kept going. We passed several hikers and other people enjoying the late afternoon sun.We walked about another 10 minutes and found another viewpoint with stunning views and it was then just starting to get dark and it looked really pretty.
