Parador

Room with a View/ Great Just for Coffee Too.

We usually rent a house for any stay away from home longer than a few days but because we travel by ferry and our own car, our arrival day does not always coincide with the rental start day.
A good excuse for a night in the Parador.

That did not happen on our last visit which was fortunate as the Javea Parador was undergoing a total refubishment. Surprising because it did not seem that long since the last one!

I doubt that anything can be done about the exterior appearance of the building which a Spanish friend described as "the prize winning entry in a competition for authentic 1970's Soviet Block Style"
But it has a great location and attractive interior and we have stayed there on 3 or 4 occasions.

All rooms have a sea view and there is a very pleasant and well tended garden that runs down the side of the canal, a swimming pool (which we have not used - closed in winter months) and all the usual facilities and comfort Paradors are known for.
Restaurant meals make good use of regional specialities and there is always a set Menu if that is preferred.
Parador breakfasts provide an excellent start to the day and should satisfy every taste and appetite.

I have rated this hotel a little more than average in cost but we always pay less than average.

How?
We signed up for the "Golden Days" Card as soon as we were 60, and also joined Amigos de Paradores. The first gives a very generous discount and with the second "points" are awarded for all expenditure in the Parador - including in the shop - which may be just a kiosk in smaller places. Accumulated points can be used for a free nights in a parador.

Other discount schemes are available for younger people staying more than 2 nights and for families sharing a room.

Unique Quality: It is difficult to describe specific characteristics but the Parador Brand has a certain style that differs from Region to Region.
It does however give you an assurance of receiving quality accommodation, often in very unusual settings, with first class service - attentive but non-intrusive.

We have stayed in 25 different Paradores throughout Spain, each one different from the other but all guaranteed to make an overnight stay something special.
