Christmas in Torrevieja

by CarolDel

Could anyone tell me what Christmas is like in Torrevieja? We are landing on the morning of Christmas Eve. Do supermarkets open for a while on that day as we will have to get some essentials to tide us over for a few days? Do pubs and restaurents open as usual over the festive season?
I would love any advise anyone could provide me with on spending Christmas in Spain?

Christmas in Spain is nice, and in Torrevieja is even better. I can recommend you in Cabo Roig, which is next to Torrevieja, in a very mixed comunity of Spanish, Irish, English people. Cabo Roig has all you need, from bars, resturants and aparthotels. We can recomand the region. If ever get there you can try Bog Road, as a nice Iarish Bar, eat at Ocean Spice, a great Indian Resturant, or at the chinese resturants, as they are very cheap. Accomodations you'll find in Aparthotel Aguamarina at very cheap rates.

Super markets tend to be open for atleast a few hours on xmas eve morning. Pubs and restaurants tend to open but many of the popular ones are fully booked and might not let you in if you havnt put down a deposite. many of the bars and rest. do free bar etc. it might be worth it looking around on the internett and emailing and booking somewhere to avoid dissapointment. good luck

Travel Tips for Torrevieja

Fiesta

by barbskie

Three days religious festival for the Patron Saint of the Sea, La Virgen del Carmen, from the 14th of July up to the 16th. The celebrations starts with mass and the procession, in which the image of the Virgin is passed through the maritime neighborhoods or is later embarked at ports where people sail with her followed by many boats. This is procession is filled with emotion whereby people offer flowers, throw laurel in the water to remember the ones killed in the sea and sing the salve marinera. Other than these, there are more festive activities in town like regattas, musical performances and fireworks .

The S-61 Delfin Submarine

by barbskie

A "living museum" and a permanent exhibition. A first-rate tourist and cultural attraction for Torrevieja situated in the fishing wharf dock.
S-61 Delfin was retired from the active service among the Army ships after 29 years of uninterrupted service at sea. The Ministry of Defense and the Torrevieja council signed on an agreement to hand over this submarine to the city. The first time that the Spanish Army handed over one of its ships to a Spanish council. Torrevieja is considered as the first municipality who become an Army ship.
For those who are interested to view inside this fleet: Be there earlier to avoid long waitings. Sometimes there is a long queing. As we were there last June, there are two friendly guides who speaks English and German. Attention, cams are not allowed inside and ladies has to leave their handbags outside. We were thrilled during the 20 minutes tour but for Claustrophobias not a good thing! The entry is free but any donation is welcome.

"torrevieja"

torrevieja, (old tower) is a beach resort town located on the costa blanca about 45 miles south of alicante. historically it is famous for it's production of sea salt which has been an important export since roman times. the main reason to visit is for sport fishing and it's beautiful beaches. this sleepy fishing town was transformed in the 1980's by an influx of northern europeans buying second homes in this area. as a result, torrevieja hosts numerous restaurants and bars offering varied cuisines. a very nice place to stop in southern valencia province.

"Beaches"

There are many good beaches in and around Torrevieja. The one in the picture is Playa Los Naufragos which is near the town centre.
Other excellent beaches are La Mata, which is just outside town on the road to Alicante; Playa La Flamenca and Cabo Roig which are to the south of the town.
