I was in Valencia in May. I am not sure where you are starting to walk from, but I stayed in the center of the city...old town ...and I walked all over, sometimes late at night and felt totally safe. there was a lot of people out and about.

you can get them once in valencia at any of the regular points of sale http://217.116.5.146/lanzador/lanzaHTM.asp?Pagina=informacion_valencianista.htm&Idioma=2&IdBanner=Aleatorio

if you prefer to get them online you can try on any of these pages
http://www.spainticketbureau.com/tickets/valencia-cf.aspx
http://www.ticketspain.com/
http://www.ticketsfc.com/es/tickets/teams.aspx?id=6&team=VALENCIA+CF

though ive never used them, so i dont know if you can trust them. i dont think the tickets will get sold out, so i'd wait and buy them here. the easiest is to buy them at the stadium.

you're staying a bit far from the center. might be a too long distance to do on foot, either to the football stadium or to the old town. but if you decide to walk, it's safe. the only areas in the center of valencia i'd try to avoid in the evenings are: the back of the train station and the gardens in the old river bed. valencia has a lot of streetlights and the streets are quite wide.

thanks jezzabel ...is the area of the hostel well served by buses to the train station/city centre or is it the case of taking taxis?? paul

Re: fc valencia vs osasuna

if you decide to walk it might take a 30 min walk, maybe a bit longer.
i dont know what bus stops you have there, but im sure there'll be buses near your hotel, there's a bus stop in almost every street in the center. i think there's no metro stop near where you are though. and no tram. another thing is that you have direct connection to the stadium and/or the old town, that im not so sure of. you may need to take more than one bus.
the bus company in valencia is EMT, and you can check bus lines on their site
http://www.emtvalencia.es/portal/Main?ISUM_Lang=2

there there's a map with all the lines (custom information-downloads) and also you can type where you are and where you want to go and it'll tell you the route and the lines you can take (check where it says How to get to, Where is it, etc). you have to be patient though, the site doesnt always work too well.

the emt buses are red. there are buses in other colours too but they usually take you outside the city. there are some buses at night too.
if you prefer to go by taxi that'll be more expensive. but it should be fine too. they cant charge too much, it isnt a too long ride (10-15 euros?)

there is a valencia supporters club in the UK who might be able to get you tickets. you can email them via che-uk@yahoogroups.com

Every falla chooses every year a fallera major and a fallera major infantil. She is in charge of the falla infantil, a small scale monument. The fallera major infantil of Valencia is in charge of the falla infantil of the Town Hall (pictured).

We can find inside the city...

by fga

We can find inside the city diverse gardens to have a nice and pleasant walk. For example:
 Antiguo Cauce del Río Turia The Old Turia Riverbed
Now converted into a garden running through the city, the old Turia riverbed is a centre for culture and leisure. There are sports facilities and recreation areas for children, particularly the Gulliver adventure park, with its immense Gulliver statue on which children can play and romp, now a tourist symbol of the city. On the east bank of the riverbed Stands the Palau de la Música , one of the city's outstanding cultural centres.
 Jardines del Real / Viveros Municipales Royal Gardens or Municipal Gardens
Located across the Turia riverbed from the ancient city centre, these gardens once contained the Royal Palace, and now have splendid rosebeds, exotic trees, a children's recreation area and the City Zoo.
 Jardín Botánico Botanical Gardens
This was the first botanical garden established in Spain, containing thousands of plant and tree species and varieties.
 Jardines de Monforte Monforte Gardens
Neoclassical style gardens adorned with Italian sculptures, providing a classical style gardens adorned with Italian sculptures, providing a romantic mood.

Light fountains at the Palau

by SirRichard

In front of the Palau de la Musica, at the Turia Gardens, every night there is a free show with fountains moving and being lighted at the rythm of classical music.

I came across it by chance, so couldn't tell you the schedules and so. I saw it at 22:00.
