Anything in August?
by Aloe9678
Hello again,
My trip timeline has been moved up... I'll be taking my vacation in August. Anything particularly interesting I should know?
Thanks!

Something I've been wondering... is there nightlife near the beach, or are all the bars/clubs in the city? I was looking through the Valencia page on here and it sounds like there's a great mix of mellow bars and places to dance... it sounds like a pretty cool place overall.

That site you gave me is awesome... my network is blocking the site for the metro though, I was actually about to ask you if you know how late they run? I probably will stay near the Centro, but I was curious how late the bus/metro run and how early they start (in case a night at the beach goes into the wee hours of the morning)...

Right, that's the site my network won't let me access. It doesn't have anything to do with the language... Big Army has some quirks. But I can check it out later on a different computer.
Thanks!

There is a lot of fun and activity after sunset in Valencia and many nearby areas. If you happen to be in Valencia during the time of the F 1 races you will surely find some extra activities. The area of the Port America is a hub of activities, specially in summer apart from many other discos and great pubs in the city. There are some specific areas like Carmen where there is a concentration of a variety of pubs. I have posted a few tips which you can check on my pages. You should find some addtional tips at the following link

Travel Tips for Valencia
General description of the historic center.
by LuigiMS
Valencia has lots of things to show and offer to tourists.
It's the city with the largest historic center in Europe. Most of this center is composed by lots of narrow and picturesque streets, and is a great pleasure to wander along them with no scheduled route: the most common neighborhoods in this zone are:
El Carmen (around "calle Caballeros" and "plaza del Carmen"), La Seu-Xerea (around and East from the cathedral), el Mercat (around La Lonja), and Velluters & El Pilar (from Torres de Quart to parque(parc) de l'Hospital).
The most traditional zone for shopping in Valencia is in the southern part of the historic center and surrounding area (streets Colón, Roger de Lauria, Don Juan de Austria, Poeta Querol, Barcas, Pintor Sorolla, Cirilo Amorós). When I'm away from Valencia, the most missed of it are my family (of course), the weather, nightlife and the most quiet activities, such as walking through a park or sitting on comfortable terrace of a bar.
Eixample
by DanielF
Following the racionalist model of the late XIX and early XX centuries, the city developed a whole new area known as Eixample or enlargement in order to accomodate the emerging bourgeoisy. This area present similarities with the Eixample in Barcelona, but at a smaller scale. The most common building styles to be found in this area range from ecclecticism to historicism and regionalism.
Ninot indultat
by DanielF
The structure of the falles is always similar: a large figure that sustains other smaller statues depicting allegoric characters or ironic images with a slight sarcasm or criticism towards the society and the politicians.
Every year only one of these statues will be saved from the fire (the smaller ones, of course). It is called the "ninot indultat" and chosen by the jury of the falles. They are kept and exhibited in the Falles Museum.
Parque Gulliver (Gulliver Park) for kids.
by LuigiMS
If you travel with children, they will enjoy this park thought for the kids. It's a huge figure laying on the ground and representing Gulliver tied by Lilliput people, which has got many slides for children and facilities for skaters and rollerskaters.
There's also a scale model of the city inside.
EL CARMEN
by trotador about BOLSERIA
In the old town there are a lot of places to go dance. Some of them are genuine museums (+ or -)
Some owner expent thousand of euros restoring old buildings just for discos.
The picture is not a very good example of what I am telling but I like it inside.
