Go to Valencia during the festival of 'Las Fallas'. The colors, the people, the excitement are very enjoyable even for someone like me who usually enjoys the beauty of nature. I'll never forget this place, the Spanish people or this festival.
FALLAS - OFRENDA DE FLORES
by MaheshSamtani
During the festivities of the Fallas, one of the preffered and most sentimental acts of this festival is the tribute that is paid by all the " falleros " to the virgin of the city - La Virgen de los Desamparados. It is on the days of the 17th and 18th of March after 4 in the evening that we will see the long lines of young and old walking kilometers together, accompanied by bands of music, till they reach the basilica and offer their tribute in the form of a boquet of flowers to the virgen, which is the ofrenda de flores. As the falleros pass by the figure of the virgin, there are people who organize the flowers to the figure, covering it fully with flowers in a very nice way. It is a treat to the eyes so go to the plaza de la virgen, once this is done as you iwll find the full area very colourfull with flowers and fragrances.
Holy Week in Valence
by DanielF
There is not a strong of Easter processions in the centre of Valence. However, the maritime districts (El Cabanyal) which were once independent from the city, have colourful processions with interesting pasos and many participants dressed up in the typical characters of the passion scenes.
Plaza Redonda
by Edu_G
This Round Plaza (it would sound funny to say Round Square!!) is a market of things that aren't sold in the central market. Built in middle XIX century, you can find there from material for a dress, a parrot, color fishes or Manises ceramics. It is very interesting going here on Sunday Mornings, because it's when the market is more crowed and there's also the selling of color birds. Next to the plaza redonda and just in front of Santa Catalina church, there is a little square with (maybe) the narrowest house in the world. It's a red house in the middle of two houses and it's only 1'15 meters wide.
El Carme
by DanielF
El Carme is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Valencia. Some areas are really decrepit, but it is still one of the liveliest districts in the city at night, in particular around the Tossal Square. There is a great diversity of ambiences, from posh and trendy to more traditional venues, or even to alternative and transgressive proposals. Part of it also catters for the gay clientele.
This picture shows the Square popularly known as del Negrito, close to the Knights Street, full of street terraces where a slightly more adult crowd tends to gather.
