Extranjeros en Valencia... where are you?
by emily_nyc
30-something American living temporarily in Valencia...
Seeking mellow, friendly, welcoming to foreigners but not touristy types of places - cafes/bars/lounges that aren't packed to the gils with local teenagers. Or smoke.
Any ideas?

I LOVED El Carmen... I traveled to Valencia alone this summer, shortly before my 31st birthday, and the night I went to Barrio del Carmen was my favorite night. I wrote up a tip about it under "Nightlife."
Travel Tips for Valencia
Quart Gates
by Lalique
These were actually the gates thru which we enterd the Old Town. Quart are less known that the other ones but no less spectacular...
The colours of the city stroke me at the 1st sight and hold me in the state of amazement till the time we left Valencia...
The Moorish heritage
by DanielF
The city was under the Muslim rule for several centuries. It was then that Valencia started to develop its wealth, based upon the agricultural techniques and products, among them the oranges, brought by the Arabs.
The ceramic industry has also been one of the most traditionals in the region of Valencia.

FALLAS: you should not miss...
by pginer
FALLAS: you should not miss them! From the 14th of March to the 19th, around 750 'fallas' (cartoon statues) are placed in corners all over the city. At 12 oclock at night on the 19th of March all of them are burnt: it looks as if all the city were burnt.
These are funy days: the weather is warm, walking around seeing fallas, having chocolat with 'buñuelos', going to 'mascleta' (it will be explained afterwards) at mid-day, ...
Churros
by SirRichard
In Spain, the typical way of ending a night out is to have chocolate with churros early in the morning.
You can normally have them at cafeterias, but in local festivities (as Fallas in Valencia) you can find many street stalls where they sell them.
