Valencia; Summer programs for kids?

by jane11e

Hi! My husband and I will be living in Valencia this summer with our daughters (7 & 8) for culture and language immersion. Does Valencia have any summer programs along the lines of "day camps" in the U.S. for children? We're especially interested in swimming, gymnastics, art and nature. Thanks!

I don't live in Valencia, but a google search with the spanish words "Qué hacemos para que se diviertan los niños este verano" gave this:
COMUNITAT VALENCIANA
Colegio Grans y Menuts - Escuela de verano Nados. Deporte, juegos, malabares, senderismo, multiaventuras, convivencia.

Granja escuela Mas del Capellà (Valencia).

Jane - this is a tricky one to search online. Unless someone on here local to Valencia has knowledge of such things I would be tempted to contact the US consul in Valencia or the US embassy in Madrid to see if they have any such recommendations - I'd be very suprised if they dont as it's quite common for US citizens isn't it?

One thought in my mind - my kids are grown up now - is that Spain does not share the same paranoia with regard to who runs things like this that the US and Britain have. That is both an advantage and a disadvantage. Certainly in Britain very good people are put off such things nowadays (even scout leaders and such) because of the mountains of red tape and criminal checks, but obviously that is done for a reason. Not too sure that applies in Spain, it's assumed 'everybody loves kids', and culturally they do.

So some sort of personal or governmental recommendation is essential.

Travel Tips for Valencia

The other side of Valencia

by solopes

In a recent professional trip to Istanbul, I met L. a kind lady from Valencia that offered me a couple of brochures and showed the kindness and welcoming manners that I'm used to meet in Spain.

OK!

I'm recovered, and Valencia is back to my travel plan. See you soon, L.

Churches galore

by DanielF

As the rest of Spanish historic towns, Valencia is extremely rich in churches. Barroque is the predominant style in the Valencian churches and the characteristic blue-tiled domes are almost everpresent, but samples of almost all architectural styles are present in the city.

FALLAS - Mascletas

by MaheshSamtani

From around mid february, where the atmosphere is surrounded by the upcoming Fallas festival activities, one of the most awaited by the Valencianos are the Mascletas. The midday firworks that are held in the Plaza del Ayuntamiento - the local town hall place. They start at at 2 PM sharp and right after mid day you will find streams of people heading for the mascletas to get the best place. More than something visual it is the sensation that you get from the rithmyc methods of the masters of this art which is very well displayed during the fallas. You have to live it to feel the gound under you shaking and to match the vibrations of your heart with the smell of gunpowder surrounding you. Pure pleasure.

NIghtlight at the beach of Valencia

by la_rim

Since me and my friend slept in his Audi A4 convertible during our road trip, we thought it might be the best to park at the beach.
The air temperature was more than 40 degrees C and the water was not that cold. After 50 meters in the water you can still touch the ground with your feet. At night the big lights invite you to a night swim if you're not afraid aof little fish jumping at your legs ;)
There is a nice open air disco club at the end of the promenade...

A beer at sunset

by MaheshSamtani about Sun Set Bar

You surely have been to different bars and pubs with different atmospheres, however what I am going to recommend right now is surely going to be a different experience. This ia Beer bar or how the Germans would call it a Beer Garden, built on terrain taken from the sea. It is just at Port America and a Spanish beer company has set up this bar, where they serve beer and of course all types of other drinks. The public is a mixture of the people from the different sailing teams participating in the the upcoming Americas cup as welll as the local public and tourists. A great mixture. All of this with great music at the background and sometimes with some live musician or drummer. Well worth a visit. If you are there at the time of sunset you have a bonus experience. Informal
