Is Valencia feasable as a day trip from Madrid?Thxs!

There is a bus stop right outside the (upper level) exit of Valencia airport - takes you to the bus station. (Very cheap)
From there, buses and taxis are fairly easy to the rest of the city.

I am anticipating that Valencia will become a 'day trip' once the high speed rail AVE starts in mid December in time for Christmas. The journey time from Atocha to Valencia will apparently be cut to 1 1/2 hours. It takes more than that long to get from the centre of Madrid through airport formalities and airborne in my experience.

Travel Tips for Valencia

Some info about Valencia...

by Bamby-Bambi

Founded by the Romans in the year 138 BC Valencia has accumulated enormous wealth from all the cultures which have resided here over the centuries ( Muslims, Goths …) . Stroll through Valencia and feel the plurality and evolution of a city where prosperous historical tradition and recent and innovative architecture stand side by side.

The historic centre with its religious temples, Gothic Barroque and Modernist monuments, the varied and renowned museums, the architectural projects such as the city of Arts and Science, and the Conference Palace are but a few of the many attractions which Valencia has to offer its visitors.

Valencia is one of the main industrial centres on the Mediterranean. It has also become a European Congress Centre as well as an important focal point for international business and trade fairs. Valencia is a cosmopolitan city and is ideal for commerce and cultural exchange.

Heavily influenced by the sea since its foundation, the city of Valencia’s maritime links are as strong now as they have ever been. Thanks to this close relationship with the sea, its expertise in staging important events and the unstinting efforts of central, regional and local government, Valencia has been selected ahead of 65 other cities around the world as the host of the 32nd America’s Cup. In hosting this international event in Spring 2007 Valencia will become an exceptional vantage point overlooking the Mediterranean, affording visitors an unrivalled view of the action.

This beautiful Mediterranean city enjoys a mild temperate climate and offers a wealth of gastronomical delights, festivals and cultural events. Browse through the site and find out everything you need to know about your stay.

Valencia Tip

by sjvessey

Las Fallas. An annual festival held towards the end of March, it's 4 solid days of partying. The streets are filled as thousands of people flock to the city from all over Spain, to admire the Fallas - giant wood and paper constructions placed at most major intersections. On the final day, they are all set on fire as parades of people dressed in traditional costumes walk to the cathedral square to construct a giant Virgin Mary out of flowers.

Horchata

by belgianchocolate

I was getting really addicted to this drink.
'Horchata' is tiger nut milc.
It is very refreshing. I don't know how they
make it but the quality also differs from
place to place.

It is not expensive and you can get it almost everywhere.
It made me think of carrot juice with a really fine
flavor. (but that is my interpretation and most
people think I probably had a bit too much absinth)

Travel away from the city!

by Conflictrealms

For most of the time i was in Valencia, I was away from the city. As you can see from the photo, the rural areas are just as beautiful as the city itself. The photo here was taken from my uncles new house on a mountain close to a small town called Casinos.

Pavement location to watch the city go by

by JulesH about The Bullring

This bar opens in the late afternoon and is a beautiful cultural backdrop against which to watch the world go by. The table service is prompt, but the bar does not serve food so we used to start the evening here and then move on later when we wanted to eat. Typically, Valencianos don't seem to stay in one place for the whole evening so we tried to follow suit.
