Should I stay in Torrent?

by tomparkes

Hi,

I'm staying in Valencia for 4 nights before I travel up to Benicassim music festival at the end of July, and am looking for a cheap hotel with a swimming pool for my friend and I to relax at before the festival begins. I've found two so far, Hotel Vora Fira and Hotel Lido in Torrent. The Lido looks like the better option to me, but just wondered what Torrent was like as an area? We aren't too fussed about going out to bars every night, but I just wanted to know what the surroundings are like, and whether it would be a reasonable place to stay for a few nights. I've read that it's about 20 minutes by bus into Valencia city centre, which sounds good. I don't want to arrive and find that the hotel is right in the middle of an industrial centre or something, so any help would be great. If Torrent is not a good bet, what is hotel Vora Fira like?

Cheers.

Tom.

actually none. torrent is a town (aprox 70.000 inhabitants) outside the city. you can go to valencia by bus or metro (aprox 20-30 min) from there but that's a drag to take the metro everyday. everything's going on in valencia, the city, and nothing interesting in the suburbs. i studied highschool in torrente (torrent is the name in the local language) for 4 years and i must say it's an ugly place, touristically speaking. i havent checked where in torrente the hotel is but it's quite possible that it's near el Vedat (make sure about this). el vedat is a residential area in one extreme of torrente, with a lot of expensive houses and pine-forests, but nothing more. maybe some restaurant, but thats all. i wouldnt stay in torrente.
the same goes for the Vora Fira hotel. it's localed near our main trade fair building, thats again outside the city. nothing to do there, and it's in an ugly town too. i also studied there for 5 years :P at university, where ive also been working for another 4 years...so i know the place quite well. i wouldnt stay here either.
if you want a nice hotel in the city with open air swimming pool u may want to check hotel las arenas (at the beach). it's quite expensive, but it's nioe. if a hotel with covered swimming pool will do then there're a lot in the city. make sure you find a hotel IN the city, and not in the suburbs. the smaller towns around valencia arent a good choice, imo.
i hope this helps. do not hesitate to ask again for advice if u need it. i'll be glad to help.

Madrid To Valencia and back

by amarshah

Hi ppl,

I would be reaching Madrid on Sunday noon and will want to go to Valencia directly. Which would be the ideal option from Madrid Intl Airport.

Also my return flight back home fro Madrid would be at 7am. on 5th. When should i leave Valencia to reach the airport safely? Should i have a night halt at Madrid on 4th or can i get some overnight options?

Please let me know of some decent hotel/motel close to Feria Muestrario Internacional de Valencia.

Thanks

Amar

the ideal option, will be fliying directly from Madrid to Valencia, as you shoudl not leave the airport
There are many fast trains (Alaris, 2:30 hours), but you'll have to go from the airport to Atocha station. As flight tickets prices are so variable, check both options. The cheapest options, but taking 6-7 hours, will be slow trains and buses
I'm afraid you should spend your last night in Madrid as there are not night transports between these 2 cities (as far I know, maybe someone may prove me wrong).

For that early of a flight from Madrid you will need to taxi or take a shuttle and still need to be there 2 hours before for an international flight. As Isa said, the buses and trains from Madrid to Valencia take a long time. I just went and found that the cost of a flight on Spanair was just a few euro more and only an hour flight. I stayed in the old town a few blocks from the Renfe station. Very easy to get around. Karl

there are night buses from valencia to madrid (valencia 21:30 - madrid 1:30 or valencia 1:00 - madrid 5:00). bus as said above you'd still need to get to the airport. so i also think the safest, easiest, and fastest is to spend that last night in madrid.
the most popular hotel near Feria de Valencia is Vora Fira. but i have never seen it, only heard the name and seen advertisements.
good luck!

Also, getting from the airport in Valencia to downtown is so easy by the metro. 15 minutes. Very cool. Check the metro plan and I bet the metro would drop you close to your hotel. Cheers, Karl

Thanks i guess i would be opting for the train. As i land on a Sunday i can take a train to Valencia. On the return i am not getting flights to Madrid so i guess a night in mardrid would be the only option than risking it in a bus !

Thanks for the hlep
