living almost 18 years in a fishing village ( sines ) i found amazed with the quantity and quality of fishing boats arriving at villajoyosa fishing harbour whilst in the beach. counted 11 and with many others, alongside the port, easy to know the importance of fishing activity in that small and charming village.

"Beautiful town"

We went to la Villajoyosa at the perfect time. It was a long "puente" weekend so we went for a few days to scuba dive. The weather was great, it got up to 30ºC even, which isn't so common for October. And because we were diving in the fall the water was still warm from the heat of the summer.

Coloured and sweet

Villajoyosa (or Villa Joiosa), which literally means "the jewel town", is about 10 kms from Benidorm on the Costa Blanca and situated at the mouth of the River Sella and is the main town of the La Marina region. The town is a much older town than Benidorm and the locals say that it is close enough to Benidorm whilst being far enough away! The town stretches out along side a sandy beach, bordered with palm trees and ends at its fishing port.
As well as tourism, Villajoyosa is the home of fishermen and chocolate-makers, a strange combination but both of which are deeply rooted in the City's history.
