Renaissance Charm; Contemporary Cultural Life
"City of Cervantes"
Alcalá lives its historical heritage with both grace and verve. The museums, performances, monuments, and people in this small city are approachable on an intimate level not possible in Madrid or Barcelona The human scale of the Don Quixote and Sancho Panza statues fronting the Cervantes House embodies this quality.
"City of Storks"
In the Old City there are stork nests everywhere. Although they appear ungainly, the birds are graceful in flight. The storks are part of "Alcalá life above street level" which also includes sights on upper balconies and views from bell towers.
"City of Learning"
Alcalá is a university town. The Colegio Mayor de San Ildefonso (near Hotel Bedel) has wonderful architecture, a quiet garden, and an inexpensive place to take coffee and escape the heat.

Again, so beautiful!
