Travel Tips for Alcobendas

La Feria del Marisco

by la_beba

From the 1st to the 4th of May, the Celebration of Seafood (Feria del Marisco) takes place in Alcobendas, Madrid.

Being 2003 the sixth consecutive year that this fair turns the Madrilenian locality of Alcobendas into a Galician market filled with seafood and products brought every day from the municipality of O´Grove, which can be tasted in the fairground of the Park from Andalusia at very reasonable prices.

I heard on TV that this Celebration of Seafood has been, for six years, an inescapable appointment for the citizens of Alcobendas, Madrid and other municipalities of the Community, where they go taste dishes that arrive from O´Grove, a locality of Galician Rias Bajas.
In addition to tasting some of the delights of Ria de Arosa, this celebration approximates the Madrilenians to the typical folklore through groups of gaitas and dance that give the celebration a colorful Galician touch.

As an interesting fact: the squid to feira (el "Pulpo a la Gallega") has always been the best seller plate sold at this fair in previous years. In 2002 there was 9,200 "raciones" consumed.

The empanadas are also are very popular, with 8,100 rations served in 2000.
They had empanada of "mejillones" (mussels), or "berberechos" (cockles), or "zamburiñas".

In addition, the visitors who approach the Celebration of Seafood choose the rice of Galician seafood, the "Almejas a la Marinera" (clams), the "cígalas" and oysters, or rodaballo, all of it, accompanied by the typical bread elaborated with different cereal flours and also the Galician wines from Ribeiro and Alvariño.
