Flying Out

by nino224

I´m in Santiago at the moment. I´m scheduled to fly to Madrid on Monday for an overnight stay and then Miami on Tuesday.

I´m thinking if the strike is still active on Monday, maybe I should take a train to Madrid and hope for the best on Tuesday.

Suggestions?

Re: Flying Out

by Franja

The strike is over and I do not see any more problems in the comming days with scheduled flyghts. Maybe in a couple of months we will go back to the problems, but not in the next two or three weeks.

Most of the Spanish air traffic controllers have now returned to work and airspace has reopened:

I'll leave it to Spanish VT-ers to suggest whether any further action is likely, but I suspect it is not for the moment. But there will inevitably be some disruption for a while, so I suggest you check with your airline tomorrow about your Monday flight and decide from their info whether to take a train or not.

Definitely glad to hear this latest development.

I´ve been monitoring the newscasts and the controllers are getting no sympathy whatsoever from the public. That´s probably why they´re back at work so soon.

I think that they are back at work because they had no option. Under a seldom used Royal Decree that brought in Military presence and would have meant serious consequences. Similar thing happened in USA in 1981 when the Controllers' Union had a major stand off with Ronald Reagan. Most of the controllers then were fired and their jobs replaced.
best to catch up with latest news on www.aena.es (airports authority) and see what they report or use their TWITTER - http://twitter.com/aenainformacion

Hope it's all calming down and folks can now fly. Looking promising.

There won't be problems on Monday, however, they have to reschedule the flights, so, I suggest you to be aware in case of a delay (be in contact with your air company either by telephone or internet).

Travel Tips for Madrid

MUSEO del JAMON - Vegetarians beware - LOL

by sirgaw

Spaniards love to eat and unless a meal contains meat, well in my opinion its just not Spanish - oh, you'd better add a healthy dash of garlic, tomotoes and onions too.

The Spanish also love their ham and we discovered the MUSEO del JAMON close to the Sol metro station.

It is a pandoras box of hams and cold meats where everything from a full leg of ham to cold cuts can be bought and taken away. They also have a bar where beer, coffee whatever you want can be drunk on the spot while nibbling on tapas - including their ham. Upstairs is a full service restaurant and what did we choose - PAELLA, which we had trouble finishing as there was so much of the yummy dish. Cost for 2 - about 14 Euro for paella and considerably cheaper than other eateries close by - enjoy.

Los Madrileños somos así

by Carmela71

Si no, visitar
gaditanas) cualquier verano o puente.

The language

It's a good tip to learn some Spanish before going to Madrid. Even if it's the capital and financial city of Spain few people speak English. Just learn some useful words and phrases and you will get received with a lot of kindness. You don't have to speak a lot but the little you try will be very appreciated.

I love the peace and quietness...

by oleLu

I love the peace and quietness of the Botanical Garden!. It is just right the Prado Museum but not crowded. It´s a good way of relaxing after visiting the museum. Look for the entrance at the small square located aside from the Prado.
You´ll love it!!

Agatha Ruiz de la Prada

by Danalia about Fashion

In Calle de Serrano, waiting for you one of the most famous fashion store of the original designer Agatha Ruiz de la Prada.
I loved her fashion and work, the use of unlimited range of colors, and the feeling that sometimes I wanted to but it all .
