The Metro is a cheap and efficient way of travelling around the city. There is a direct link from Barajas airport making travel into the city on arrival very easy and convenient.
The Metro gets extremely busy (and hot) at peak times. During the working week try to avoid a flight into Barajas arriving at around 7pm - this is the time most Spaniards finish work and the trains will be very crowded.
