there are three main streets in the center of madrid that offer at a good price rooms or beds for people backpacking. those streets are:
C/ Echegaray
(near Santa Ana Square in Huertas)
C/ Fuencarral, and C/ Horataleza.
(in Chueca near La Gran Via)
Shop around there are like 5 hostels or more on each road, all of them have different prices starting at 25euros and depending on what you are trying to find.
