Hello,
my family and I are going to spend Christmas in Madrid. We have never been to Madrid before and we don't know how it's like over Christmas time. Are the shops closed on Christmas day? What activities can we do? Our two kids are only 4 and 7 years old.
Also, there is a new hotel called "oasis madrid albufera". their rates are very reasonable and it is located not very far from anywhere we would want to go. does anybody know about this place?

Hi, I'm going with a friend to Madrid and considering the Oasis Madrid Albufera also, but haven't found much information about it. Can you tell me if you ever ended up staying there and would you recommend in? Safety and close to the metro/bus is important to us. We are two girls. Thank you so much!
For those who have been at an Imax before, and liked it, there is one in Madrid as well, it is located at Parque Tierno Galvan, Metro Mendez Alvaro. For those who have not and do not know what it is, an Imax is a huge screen room with a HUGE screen, they have been showing Matrix there,,, That have to be an experience! ..There are some 3D projections as well, and the 3D effect is well done, you feel you are inside the movie. If you have time, and 10 euros to burn, go and see...
The San Isidro fiesta, starts on the 15 of May and goes on for nine days.
That Fiesta is dedicated to San Isidro which is the patron saint of Madrid. San Isidro is Madrid's most melodious fiesta. The main stage is always in the Plaza Mayor and during every day and night of the 9 day festival, it is easy to find various concerts and traditional dancing.
In the middle of AZCA center, or Madrids Manhattan you can find this beautiful little external decoration. A modernistic “little” clock just hanging there at the wall, almost as a part of the wall itself.

This popular fleamarket is held on Sundays and holidays from about 10AM to 2PM. Even if you don't plan to buy anything, is a good way to spend sunday mornings wandering around and finishing with some delicious TAPAS. Be careful of your wallet and handbags, the very crowded streets are a paradise for pickpockets. See my travelogue for more info. Bargain! This is one of the few places in madrid where you can do it. As most are 2nd hand things, the price is always relative...
There are loads of Irish and English pubs in Madrid. Moores is quite convenient and one I visit every so often. On Monday night there is a Pub Quiz, in English. There is a "menu del Dia" for lunch Mon-Fri. Live Football Champions League and Premiership matches. At Thanksgiving they even do a thanksgiving dinner for all the displaced Americans who need to have their Turkey with gravy.
