Good time in Regina hotel Madrid

Regina Hotel Madrid June 2006
We choused this hotel for our vacation in Madrid mainly due to its location, but we found out that it was much more than that. The hotel is rated 3 stars but it was definitely better than many other 4 stars hotels we stayed in Europe.
The hotel is nicely decorated and has a pleasant elegant modern appearance, yet makes you feel “home like”.
The location is really great! Located on Alcala Street in the very center of tourist Madrid, 5 minutes walk from Puerto Del Sol and GranVia, 20 meters from the Metro station Seville and a bus stop of several lines and within walking distance to most of the main city attractions. For those of you who will have a car there is an underground parking lot in front of the hotel. It has many restaurants of all kinds nearby, Tapas bars and places to hang at night.
The room we received was big, the bad was huge and of high quality, everything was clean and had a good smell, (we asked and received a non smoking room). Our room was located in the back of the hotel so it was relatively quieter. The windows were with double glazing blocking most of the city noises, and with rolling shutters that blocked the morning sun light completely.
The honks of Madrid’s nervous drivers could be heard in the room, and so were our neighbors coming late at night through the corridor, but this is unavoidable in the never sleeping city of Madrid.
The staff was friendly and talking good English. I was pickpocket in the Metro and they were supportive and helpful. They also have a low cot shuttle service to the Airport.
Breakfast was good but not amazing, I was missing some fresh vegetables, and some low fat food, but I guess that is not common in Madrid.
Price was a bit expensive but I felt that it was worth it. We will warmly recommend it to all our friends.
Superb Location

We stayed here on a recent trip to watch the Arsenal vs. Real Madrid game (1 nil in the Bernabeu).
Hotel is ideally located right next to the "Sevilla" station on the Metro which can take you straight from the airport. Also ideal for getting around to see all the city has to offer also.
The room was very clean, quiet, spacious and comfortable. Even though we had a room right next to the elevator there was no noise at all.
Friendly reception staff and a nice loung bar made the stay very enjoyable. Of course being there to see Arsenal beat Real Madrid in their own back yard made the trip just perfect.
Noise

The hotel looked great from the outside--the lobby, cafe and reception areas were all very nice. The room, however, was a different story. I stayed on a the first floor in what was obviously NOT one of their recently renovated rooms as the decor was pretty shabby. My real complaint, however, was the noise--I've never experienced such volumes of disturbance in my life: throngs of people gathered until 6 am on the street outside, garbage trucks at 4 am, and the paper-thin interior walls meant I could hear every doorslam, toilet flush and conversation of the guests in the adjacent room. In the end, I got no sleep and checked out a day early.
Bring Your Ear Plugs

Stayed at this hotel for a 4 day trip, great location. We decided to
take the metro it was fine only 1 euro and you have to change line 3
times.
Our room was on the first floor the view was fabulous but the noise from
the street was terrible. We had to buy ear plugs for sleeping at night.
The bathroom was ok poor shower head and poor hairdryer. This hotel does
not do clothers irons either.
The hotel reception and staff are very nice and friendly. Bar staff not
so friendly or helpful. The internet is great fast and secure - 3 euro
for 15 mins.
You also should know that you have to have photo ID to use your Visa
card in the shops. This was a big inconvenience for me because I only
had my passport. Every cafe/bar has a sign up to watch your bags
"Professional Thief's in Operation " the Starbucks one read. This does
make you feel paranoid.
Very good hotel in central Madrid

We stayed at Regina early July 2006 for 3 nights. The hotel location is excellent, only ~5 minutes from Purto Del Sol with Metro across the road and shops and restaurants around. We had a triple room, very clean with sparkle marble bathroom. Our room was away from main traffic so very quiet. A/C worked well in 40 degree weather. Breakfast was included and very good price through Internet reservations.

Easter in Madrid
by Joe0826
Hi,
We spend a few days in Madrid at Easter from 23.04.2011 to 27.04.2011. Easter is a good idea to go to Madrid? The museums, restaurants, Prado, Escorial are open at this hour? Possible to visit the temples?

What temples?

I guess you mean "churches" by "temples"
You will actually be there is mostly normal times. Semana Santa (Holy Week) in Spain is celebrated the week before Easter Sunday, with some differences between regions. In Madrid its festive on Holy Friday (and for many people in Thursday) so the city will be quieter than usual in Saturday 23 and Sunday 24 due the long weekend (many locals out of town and no big special celebrations attracting tourists). So, actually these two days are great to see the main sights without big crowds. However, some restaurants may be closed these days check in advance if you're interested on eating on any particular place. Most shops will be closed on Sunday (as any other Sunday)
Easter Monday is not festive in Madrid. Many museums will be closed (and a few open) as any other Monday, business as usual as in the rest of your days.
Have fun!

I think "quieter" is an understatement.
Once I happened to be in Madrid from Thursday to Saturday before Easter, it was for a business meeting and not for leisure, so it did not make a difference for me. Anyway, there was no car traffic at all (which is a very strange sight in Madrid) all shops, restaurants and bars were closed, we had to have all our meals in hotel restaurants because they were the only possibility. The only life we saw in the streets were some religious processions.
I suppose on Easter Sunday everything comes to life again, except that most inhabitants are somewhere else on holiday.

Manara, maybe it depends on the year, but when I said "quieter" it was not an assumption, it was my experience, that apparently was very different of yours. The two times I have been to Madrid during Semana Santa I have always found where to eat (not in hotels). I've to say that some of my fav eating places in Madrid were closed (these are out the tourist area anyway), but most of the bars and restaurants in the very city centre were open and busy. On these visits I have done everything I wanted to (basically visiting some art exhibitions, of course checking the opening times in advance to plan my itinerary). Can't speak about religious processions, I just had no time and interest on them (but may be interesting for a visitor).
In any case, the "days of concern" for the OP will be only Saturday 23 and Sunday 24. If arriving on 23 I assume it will be just half a day, so it must be easy to fill it. I would probably plan a day out of Sunday, for instance El Escorial will be open (it's open all days except Mondays)

San Lorenzo De 'El Escorial' (or del.......) is a fair old way from Madrid but there are connections. Both the palace and the village are worth the visit though.
