Keep on walking
by Wenasje
Madrid is a wonderful city to just walk in and discover what it has to offer. One of the things I' ve heard people say is that Madrid doesn't have any real interesting attractions or that the just don't know why Madrid could be interesting and that they prefer Barcelone. I had been to Barcelona before, but I definitely wanted to give Madrid the benefit of the doubt. I'm glad I did, because I was not disappointed at all. Madrid as beautiful. Impressive buildings, clean streets, diverse in the type of neigbourhoods and what not. So, put on some comfy shoes and start walking, discover Madrid!
Royal Palace
by SirRichard
A wonderful building with even more wonderful gardens. You can tour the palace on your own, at your leisure, or for a few pesetas more you can take a guided tour in English, Spanish, German, or French. Also, international student discounts are offered at most museums so be sure to bring your student ID. The entrance is on the south end of the Palace. Unless there are lines you might not notice it immediately.
Open Monday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00 AM to 2:00 PM / Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM to 16:00PM
Metro: Opera Some History: The palace was commissioned in the early 1700s by the first of Spain's Bourbon rulers, Felipe V. It took 26 years to build, and today it takes nearly two hours for a guided tour to even begin to scratch the surface of its treasures. They include a two-ton crystal chandelier in the Salon de Gasparini, King Carlos III's ornate private apartments; the Royal Library, which boasts a first edition of Cervantes's DON QUIXOTE; and the Music Museum, which has the world's largest collection of instruments built by the legendary luthier Stradivarius. Don't worry about running into the King and Queen: no royalty has lived in the palace since 1931.
what clothes to pack
by ger4444
Madrid is a modern metropolis so as it comes to clothing "anything goes." But it is appreciate if you dress in clas. no flip-flops, short skirts or short trousers, jeans are ok as well as a airy summerdress. its especially respectfull if you visit churches. Or just take a minimal on clothes and do some shopping at Zara. In winter pack an overcoat and gloves.

La Latina
by Birsen about Tapas
La Latina and Lavapiés are rapidly becoming Madrid’s most multicultural neighbourhoods, and young artists are also moving in to add to the mix, bringing trendy bars, cafés and vintage clothes stores in their wake. The Sunday morning flea market El Rastro is a classic: follow it in true Madrileño style with a tapas crawl around the local bars. Casual
