Attending Real Madrid-Barcelona match (hopefully)

by midnight_mike

I will be in Mardid April 10-11, which is when Real Madrid will be playing FC Barcelona. I know this is the biggest match of the year, so I am wondering how realistic it is to get tickets and what they will cost.

I also am wondering if there will be good bullfighters competing at Plaza de Ventas around this time.

It will be near impossible to get a ticket for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona. Some years ago a friend (who was playing on a secondary Real Madrid team) tried to get me a ticket, but turned out to be impossible.

It's usually not impossible to get a ticket, in case you are willing to pay 500-600€ for it. The usual places that sells tickets on the net tend to have these 'offers', but this time may be even more expensive.

go to see LA PLAZA MAYOR (This is not a very good picture but I will try to find a bigger one). It is in the middle of Madrid and when you get there you have to try the traditional squid sandwiches in one of the corners´ bar and have a hand-made painted of yourself done as a souvenir.

Youth - attitude to elderly

by davidcross

I, aged 72, was impressed by the difference in attitude to here in England when I went into what was plainly a young people's pub,

In England I have often encountered an atmosphere that could be cut with a knife and occasionally I have encountered insults.

In Madrid, without ever asking, I was found seats in pubs crowded with people in their twenties and thirties and invariably somebody would get into conversation. Whereas I don't seek cocessions t age, it was a very welcome change.

A walk on the hills to the west side of the city, from Puerta de Toledo, down to the Manzanares (river) with the old Puente de Toledo to cross it. Behind stadium 'Vicente Calderón' (Atletico de Madrid) and have a great view on the city. A visit to the old cemetary of San Isidro is worth while!

Flamenco

by Lorro about Casa Patas

There are several places to see flamenco in Madrid. I like Casa Patas because they feature many well known visiting artists and its a place that Spanish people like to go too. There are generally less dancers than you would see in a typical "tablao" but this place is more authentic. They have two shows a day and also a restaurant with typical spanish food, a little expensive but not too bad. When I was there the flamenco artists and all their friends were dining at the restaurant.
Call for times and reservations, cost is about 25 E per person.
Definately recommended.
