As every other metropoly in the world Madrid needed a splendid boulevard but had none. So the plan was invented to create one: during 40 years (starting in 1917) more than 300 houses and 14 streets had to vanish to make this impressive boulevard become reality as you could see it todays. It starts at Calle de Alcalá and ends at Plaza España. It is Madrid?s very center of entertainment and shopping. The architecture of some buildings is fabulous and make Madrid a very Metropolis-style city in my opinion. But also the traffic is pretty impressive here and as a pedestrian you better wait for green light or you might get killed.
