3 days in Madrid

by df1616

We will have three full days in Madrid. I need your thoughts on traveling to Seville and Toledo or just spending our time in Madrid.

Re: 3 days in Madrid

A day trip to Toledo is highly recommended :-)

Seville might be pushing it - better to spend the rest of your time enjoying & exploring the capital!!

Thanks for the advice. Any tips on what not to miss in Madrid?

In my opinion you will need the three days to stay in Madrid. Depends on what you like but if I was you I wouldn't miss the Prado Museum. Right now you can also see a Temporary exhibition of Turner.

I highly recommend to visit the ATHENEO LIBRARY.

For Madrid at night go to PLAZA SANTA ANA (A lontime ago, Spanish Writters such as Quevedo, Cervantes, Lope de Vega, just lived there.

In Huertas Area you can can find some nice restaurants. If you like fish go to a place called RESTAURANT MACEIRAS.

For some drinks on Saturday night just go to Plaza Santa Barbara

Toledo is a nice day trip from Madrid, but if you want to see the major museums in Madrid then 3 days is hardly enough. I discovered that although a bit more expensive, the train from Madrid is much more convenient that the bus.

The Hop On/Hop Off bus in Madrid is a good deal. Gets you to a lot of places and you can switch back and forth between the red (historic route) and blue (modern Madrid) lines as much as you want with out paying extra.

The Prado, The Reina-Sofia and the Biblioteque Nacional are all important and interesting places to visit.

Travel Tips for Madrid

The Palace

by Toyin

The people here have great love for their King, and it surely reflect on the way they talk and relate with him. His palace remained one of the biggest building in Madrid, and is a place for tourist alike. The fact that monachy, or Aristocratism is still tolerated here.

Casa de la Panadería

by Carmela71

This is at the Plaza Mayor at your right side if you come from Plaza del Sol.

It is easy to recognise from all the buildings because of the frescos paintings on its facade.

the last times I visited was on reconstruction, so it was nice to see all renewed.

Las Mayas

by ger4444

Around the Iglesia de San Lorenzo in the Lavapies barrio. in each street a may queen(maya) is choosen for a flowerfull may fiesta. The day after that on 2 may there is a militairy parade at Sol and a festival at the plaza del Dos de Mayop in Malasagna.

Estadio Santiago Bernabeu

by Jefie

Even if I really don't know much about European football (which we call soccer in Canada), I was still curious to see the famous Santiago Bernabeu stadium, home to the Real Madrid. This mythic stadium was inaugurated back in 1947 and it sits a little over 80,000 people. If you're a football fan, you'll probably be interested in going on a tour of the stadium, which includes a visit to the dressing room, the trophy room, a walk down the players' tunnel and onto the field, among other things. The stadium is open for visit every day from 10:30 am to 6:30 pm, and admission costs 15 Euros. It is located at No. 1, Avenida de Concha Espina (at the corner of Paseo de la Castellana). Metro: Santiago Bernabeu.

nice local hangout.

by cachaseiro about los timbales

los timbales is a nice local cafe near the big bullring and a place where the local guys hang out for beer and coffee before and after the bullfights.
it's a very authentic place with an interesting if a little old fashiones vibe. anything goes.
