Sunset view from my room
by TravelingTeach
I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Hotel Plaza Mayor. It's in a very convenient location, the hotel is modern and well maintained, and the employees were very friendly and helpful. My room, while not very large, was meticulously clean, and had a gorgeous view of Plaza Santa Cruz and Plaza Mayor. I loved waking up each morning and standing at my balcony watching the people go by. A breakfast buffet is available for 6 euros, though I did not give it a try.
Lots of great restaurants and shops are within feet of the front door. The view from my fourth floor room couldn't be beat!
I had made a lot of research before choosing a hotel in Madrid and found many emphatic recommendations about this hotel. All them proved to be more than accurate.
The Plaza Mayor is a very nice hotel, perfectly located over Plaza Santa Cruz and only a block from Plaza Mayor. Rooms are inmaculate clean, modern and comfortable. Many rooms and the facade have been recently renovated. Service is superfriendly.
There are 3 types of rooms: Standard at E70 (I read that are somehow small). Superior at E80 that are very nice and Superior with king size bed for E85. I stayed one night at the Superior and then changed to the Superior w/king which was an awesome large room in the 5th floor on the corner with 3 windows to the square. The extra money worths it.
The only drawback is that the street may be a bit noisy at nights so ask for a room in the upper floors.
This hotel is highly recommended and I would pick it again without any doubts.
