Backpacker's haven

Nice patio with Moorish tiles and funky underground cafe and bar with Internet facilities. Shared bathroom and dormitory were cleaner than I had expected and lockers are also available in the room.

Nothing to complain about this well priced, functional, basic accommodation.

Madrid's Best Hostel

This hostel is fantastic! The location in amazing, really central and a stones throw from one of the more famous plaza's, the park, the Prado, lots of resaturants and bars and shops!

The service was good. The staff really make sure everyone stays quite when it's late so that others can sleep - they had a hard time keeping us 8 giggly girls quiet at times though! It was all very clean. The breakfast was delicious: orange juice and tea/coffee/hot chocolate with a croissant/cereal/donut. The croissants were massive and really yummy - we made sure we got up before breakfast finished and took it back to bed!

It's a great place to meet other people who are in Madrid to have a good time, the bar downstairs is really cool - there was live music on when we were there.

It's very safe too, there's a locker for every bed and evryone staying there wears an entry key on a wrist strap and they have to be shown to get in and out and to get past reception into the main part of the hostel.

Unique Quality: It has a gorgeous courtyard and all of the rooms go off of it. Its a beautiful space to sit with a book, eat your breakfast or get talking to other people.

Sleeping in a 19th century palace

This youth hostel was nominated by several internetsites as being the number one youth hostel around the world (i think in 2005 or smth). indeed, it is a very beautifull place to stay (the interiour is really amazing with the little patio in the center of the hostel). it is also one of the cheapest place to stay in Madrid and right in the heart of Madrid (10 min walk from plaza Major and 10 min from the musea). On the other hand, you only have mixed dorms (with a minimum of 6 beds) and if you have bad luck, and have to sleep at the side of the street, you will hear a lot of noise.

Unique Quality: * we payed around 17 euro a night (incl. locker, breakfast) which is very cheap
* good security system
* there is a bar and disco downstairs
* beautifull architecture
* located in the center of Madrid

BUT if you want to get a good night of sleep after a long day of sightseeiing, i wouldn't recommend you this place

Cat's Hostel

A Large hostel in a seriously good setting. It's right in the citycenter located in an old Moorish building complete with inside courtyard and fountain. The decorations are really good and the courtyard is a popular spot amongs the other stayers to relax during the siesta.

The bar of the hostel is really good and has 1l beers for €2,50 A very cheap option considering most pubs charge twice the price for 0,5l.

Rooms are decent, but it sure is a place where many people go out at night, so it's not the most quiet place. The vending machines are pretty cheap and there are many water vending machines (both small and big bottles).

Unique Quality: On selected evenings there is free Paella.
