Many people consider the Chueca district to be the liveliest and to have the best restaurants. You can take metro line 5 to Chueca or walk if you are in the centre - it's just off the Gran Via. The area is a popular part of the gay scene in Madrid.

Three areas in Madrid come to my mind now as restaurant districts, and they are: Centro (center), Chamberi and Salamanca districts. Said that, it is impossible leave Madrid hungry, there are bars serving great bar food and tapas, there are restaurants for every taste, everywhere.

i agree with madridguide. there are bars and restaurants EVERYWHERE. you know what is absolutely stunningly beautiful? the metro stop "catedral" at night. it was like the gods were lighting up the night right as you step up to the street. if you're into that. i also liked heading down calle de alcala and hitting up the tapas bars there. it's a main drag in the middle of the city. be prepared to eat late though. i don't know how they do it.

CHURROS CON CHOCOLATE
by Danalia
Ingredients
Vegetable or Olive Oil
1 cup water
1/2 cup margarine or butter
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 cup all-purpose flour
3 eggs
1/4 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
Prepare to fry the churros by heating oil in a pan (1 to 1&1/2 inches) to 360 degrees F.
To make churro dough, heat water, margarine and salt to rolling boil in 3-quart saucepan; stir in flour. Stir vigorously over low heat until mixture forms a ball, about 1 minute; remove from heat. Beat eggs all at once; continue beating until smooth and then add to saucepan while stirring mixture.
Spoon mixture into cake decorators' tube with large star tip (like the kind use to decorate cakes). Squeeze 4-inch strips of dough into hot oil. Fry 3 or 4 strips at a time until golden brown, turning once, about 2 minutes on each side. Drain on paper towels. (Mix Sugar and the optional cinnamon); roll churros in sugar or dump the sugar on the pile of churros, like the pros. That churro taste will take you right back to your favorite summer days walking the paseos of Spain.
Note: REAL churros in Spain are made without cinnamon mixed with the sugar, but the cinnamon adds an extra nice flavor.
2 PIN ELECTRICAL PLUG
by MaheshSamtani
If you happen to carry any electrical stuff like hair dryers or just a simple charger for your mobile telephone - you will have to take into account that the electrical systems admit only the 2 pin round plug as shown in the picture. If you are coming in from Britain you might want to buy an adapter to be able to use your stuff in Spain. It may be a little difficult to get it in any normal electrical store. If you happen to have a El Corte Ingles department store near you - they sell adapters for different systems.
The Spanish system is compatible with most European plug sockets – except mainly for the British 3 pin plug - so get that adapter.

Finbars
by jacket about Irish pubs
Definitely the place to be, great to get out of the city centre and away from the over priced tourist bars....cheap pints during the day with all the main sporting events although the staff were abit cold at first but they soon made me feel at home and made my stay a memorable one...Finbars is a relaxing not a 5 star bar but still worth a visit.....
