Lavanderias Autoservicio

by asaustrup

We are staying out by Nuevos Ministerios and cant find a coin operated laundry. Our Hotel guy claims they are only in the Centro for tourists. Any suggestions on how to get our laundry done without spending 5 euros per shirt for the hotel service?

Thanks,

Arne

I can really help but your hotel guy is right. Coin-operated laundries are *extremely* rare in Spain, in most towns you will not found any. In big cities like Madrid and Barcelona there are only a few and in the tourist areas, as only tourists use them. Everybody has a washing machine at home.

There is a Tintoreria at --- Calle Rodríguez San Pedro 12, Madrid --- which is about 10 minutes walk from the Argüelles‎ Metro station on Line 6. if you put the address into Google Maps you can make out the Van and in the shade the shop on Street View !

My thanks to everyone for their helpful responses. We found a place called Wash N' Dry right by the Tribunal metro. Only 4 machines and 2 dryers but we got our wash done fine.

Thanks,

Arne

Travel Tips for Madrid

Green Space in the City

by acemj

One nice thing about Madrid is that if you look hard enough, you'll find many public squares, benches and above all green spaces like this one at the southern end of the Parque del Retiro. If you go deeper into the park, you almost feel like you're walking through the countryside. I went to the park one afternoon, intending to just pop in and snap a few pictures, but I ended up enjoying the freedom from noise and car exhausts so much that I spent a couple hours just strolling around.

Ruben

by Sharrie

I was so happy to find RUBEN's painting here. RUBEN is one of my favorite painter & pictured is the THREE GRACES (c. 1639) which was part of his personal collection. The 3 women dancing in a ring - The Graces - are representing Love, Joy & Revelry.

Rather good weather...

by SirRichard

Here is an approximate resume:
- Summer: reeeeally hot, about 38°C in august, dry heat.
- Autumn: mild weather, around 15°C, not very rainy.
- Winter: "cold" (almost never below 0°C). It may snow, but just 1 or 2 days.
- Spring: mild, hot sometimes, dry usually.

The official name is Museo de Escultura al Aire Libre de la Castellana (Castellana Open-Air Sculpture Museum), and it can be of interest for the sculpture lovers. It is not in the city centre, but quite close to Plaza de Colón. Maybe you happend to be nearby and want to have a look.

The project dates back to 1.971, and it was inaugurated in 1.979, and this Museum gathers works of up to 18 artists such as Eduardo Chillida or Joan Miró.

Clubbing to House Music/ Bailar a House en Madrid

by joel_europa about Clubs

English:
I enjoyed the clubs in Madrid, especially Sala Divino. I danced to some local Djs that were spinning some great “House music.” It was deep, with hints of soul coming through the speakers. I was as if James Brown or Nina Simone were behind the speakers waiting for the queuesto perform every now and then. I enjoyed dancing into the early morning, and I know I will go out clubbing again when I return to Madrid.

Spanish:
Your dancing shoes.
