Great Central Location and Helpful Owners

    by

Tucked away on busy Gran Via is the Hospedaje de Romero. The hospedaje has just eight rooms I believe and is located on the sixth floor of an old office building.

There is a very small entry way inside the hospedaje. All but one of the rooms share baths. The room we stayed in had a private bath and two twin beds. It was small but very comfortable. The bathroom was adequate and contained a small bathroom with a shower. Sheets and towels were changed every day in the four days we stayed at this location.

The owners consist of a son Raul and a mother named Char. The son is the business manager of the place and also is the person to go to for sights in Madrid. The mother, who is there all the time, is very warm and friendly. Somehow even if you don't know a lot of Spanish she makes herself understood. She was very kind and even allowed me several times to use her private phone. There is a laptop in the hall that is open for all guests to use for internet access.

There is no meals provided for in the hospedaje. There are however several places within very close walking distance.

The cost of the room with private bath was a very affordable 60 euros a night. Rooms with shared bath are less expensive.

We would definitely stay here again. A great bargain and a perfect location in Madrid.

Unique Quality: Gorgeous old iron elevator. One of only two remaining in Madrid. Very nice lobby.

In the hotel Char part of the mother/son ownership team is warm and helpful even though she speaks very little English. The central location and friendly owners make this a joy.

Directions: From the Plaza de Espana Metro Station go up the street (east) about 2 blocks to 64 Calle Gran Via. The hotel is on the sixth floor. It is best to call in advance and let them know you are arriving.
