cheap, quaint, central, quite nice

We made a very last minute decision to go to Madrid, so we looked up a hotel in a book I had picked up at a hostel, and called to see if they would have a room for us, since we would be arriving around 11 pm. They did, so we planned on staying there. Well, our train (as all our trains in Spain were) was late, so we didn't get into Madrid until 12:30. We took a cab to the hotel, and the only man there only spoke Spanish (which was okay, since I had just graduated high school, and had taken four years of it) since it was so late, and he didn't have us down for a reservation, but he got us a room, and totally accommodated us. He was the nicest man, in fact, everyone there was incredibly nice to us. Not to mention, it was only 47 euro for the two of us, about what a hostel would have cost. And, we had our own bathroom and room, and the hotel was smack dab on Gran Via, the main drag. We even had a balcony overlooking the road. It was great!

Unique Quality: it's small and quaint, but for someone who's been staying in hostels, it's 5 star.
