Smoke, Drink, Eat?

by Expy2000

As a Texan I am looking for a place in Madrid where I can get a good cigar, decent wine, and little something to eat. If that is not do able how about just a fine cigar shop in the city? Thanks!

Not a cigar guy, but as for reasonable food and a good wine we enjoyed Casa Ciriaco (on my Madrid page) the typical Madrid restaurant on calle Major. In addition I was impressed by the food, staff and wine at El Botin which, although many tourists frequent, was excellent. Several years ago it was the norm that after your meal the restaurant brought out a selection of cigars and liquors. But I believe this has gone by the wayside. If you go to El Botin, you can take the short walk to Plaza Major where there are many outside tables. Many of the Spanish reds (riojas) are made from the tempranillo grape. Some bodegas add the cabernet sauvignon. I have had pretty good luck using this method as many of the wine makers in Spain are greek to me. Karl

PARKLIFE

by markeveleigh

Madrid has officially been labelled the world’s second greenest city (after Guayaquil, apparently) because of the 1200 hectares of semi-wild woodland that is Casa del Campo. Best accessed from the city by cable car it also accommodates a funfair and a (rather sad and badly run) zoo.
City centre is also full of wonderful parks and gardens: Parque del Buen Retiro, once the private grounds of Spanish kings, has remained an oasis right in the centre of the city; Plaza del Oriente with views past the palace and across the sculpted Jardines de Sabatini; Plaza de España with its huge statues of Don Quijote and Sancho Panza; the picture-perfect picnic grounds of Campo del Moro; and Parque del Oeste, with its genuine Egyptian temple that seems to testify to the fact that in Madrid you really never know what you’ll come across next.

The best home store ever

by IIGUANA about Habitat

Habitat is to your house what Dolce & Gabanna is to your wardrobe. Maybe not that much, but this store has some amazing good quality items which are simply perfect for your house. Cool designs, affordable prices and impressive items makes this store maybe a must-see in Spain!!! Look around. You'll probably find something. Take special attention to the kitchen items: plates, wine glasses, corkscrews, etc. Affordable. Maybe not the cheapest, but you get what you pay: quality and design.

Madrid lives the night. You can go out until morning (there are several after hours, so it´s impossible to get bored:

Starting at 23:00 p.m.- The Irish Rover: Excellent recreation of an irish pub. Very good atmosphere and live music.
Address: Avenida del Brasil 7

- Nature Beer: Nice atmosphere to start the night.
Address: Plaza de Santa Ana

From 1-3 a.m. - Moby Dick: Very good music (quiet dancing). Living music
Address: Avenida del Brasil 5

From 3-5 a.m. - El Sol: Dancing music (crowded)
Address: Jardines 3
Sport clothes are ok but take in account in some discoteques or even clubs, there are doormen who select people in order their clothes (it´s better if oyu are wearing shoes, never gym shoes).
