Meeting spot in Madrid airport
by midnight_mike
Hello, I will be meeting my wife at Madrid airport and need to find a spot where I can tell her to meet me at. We will both be arriving into the airport around the same time.

It may help to look at a map - and it would be much easier of you know what terminal you both arrive at. This map should help - even if you don't know your terminal.
They hid this one well:
http://www.aena.es/csee/Satellite?cid=1050046399945&pagename=subHome&Language=EN_GB&SMO=4&SiteName=MAD&c=Page&MO=1
Then click on the little "See plan" link in blue and there's the map.
Enjoy Madrid!

This is not the best web site - here's another link that has restaurants
for all terminals - in case there's a terminal outside security where you can meet (or inside security if you arrive at the same terminal):
http://www.aena.es/csee/Satellite?identity=1198751718854&cid=1198671740491&pagename=LTDA%2FLTDA&Language=EN_GB&idterminal=1198751718607&SiteName=LTDA&idairport=1198751718465&c=Page
Note you need to check the specific terminal tab across the top. This web site is terrible! They should have listed all places and just have a T1/T2/etc next to the name.

That AENA web site does not even like Firefox when opening plans !

First: Time of arrival of both of you. Second: Terminals. Third, what about if the first one arriving waits for the other at the arrivals hall?

I'm arriving in Terminal 1 and she is arriving at Terminal 2 at about the same time. I will likely walk over to Terminal 1. I have been at that airport before, but I can't say I remember much.

If you're both taking the metro into town, may want to wait some place near the *top* of the stairs that go down to the metro. Don't recall if there's a place to sit there but I know there's a big metro office.

awwww ... but I think I saw two metro stations in the map.

There are indeed 2 metro stations, 1 in Terminal 2 serving T1, T2 and T3, the other in T4. You could decide to meet at the metro information centre next to the T2 station, or before that, as I think terminals 1 and 2 share baggage carousels: you could arrange to meet by carousel 1 or any pther number chosen at random.
Or, if you will both have mobile phones on you, whichever one of you gets through first could just stop somewhere that looks convenient and phone the other to tell them where they are.

Yes, Terminal 1 and 2 share the same metro station, so, you can meet at the ticket office for the metro (just one access), the first one arriving can meet the other at the arrivals hall...

Great, thanks ... and I should point out it's easy because you just follow the little "horizontal diamond" metro signs all the way, to it's easy to follow where you're going. Can't miss the signs.

Travel Tips for Madrid
El Retiro Park
by la_beba
Without a doubt, the most emblematic example of a Madrid park is el Retiro, open space, culture in the open air and green lung of Madrid's city center, el Retiro is one of the most cosmopolitan places in the capital.
When the Count Duke Olivares gave his estate "el Gallinero" as an addition to the lands of the monastery of los Jeronimos and to construct a site for his defender Felipe IV, the improvisations that have always been followed in the construction of this park began, and continued to grow, through additions according to the necessities of the courtesans.
12 Greaps at new year's eve night
by aeroarce
At mid night on the 31st of december all spaniards have the tradition of eating 12 grapes at the time that the bells of the Puerta De El Sol's clock in central madrid rings the New Year, one per ring bell. that's the way we welcome the New Year.
This Tradition cames from a over prodution of greaps at late 1800 or beggining the 1900
people show that there where a lot of greaps and they would loose them there was no exit for them so they decided to use them on welcoming the New Year.

Plaza Mayor Places
by jamiesno about Plaza Mayor Places
This is just a very general tip I guess but in the Plaza Mayor area there are plenty of places to go and eat and drink and party.
I don't know the name of this place but I found some spot right at Plaza Mayor for some Sangria.
Hmmmm :-)
