It's in the details
by vivalasteph
One of the beautiful treats in Madrid are the surprises in architectural details, tilework, mosaics, sculptures, etc. You pass a little hole in the wall and marvel at the intricacy and charm that has been so lovingly preserved all these years.
Take time to appreciate these details...
Meal times
by marisa81
If you are from North America, spanish eating hours are something to adjust to. Dinner is not until 8pm at earliest, so sometimes it is hard to find a nice place to eat when you are hungry around 5 or 6. Also we found that we would get up early in order to get the most done in the day, however nothing was open and certainly no where to eat. On the day we left Madrid, we left at 9 or 10am and there was not a single restaurant open in our area where we could catch a bite to eat.
Parque De Atracciones
by ALANinWORCS69
Located in the parkland of Casa De Campo is Parque De Atracciones - A theme park full of rides for all ages. Recently it has had some investment spent on it, so there are some rides worth going on... 3 water rides, a couple of rollercoasters, in all around 50 attractions.
The owners are Parques Reunidos, who also own several other theme parks, zoo's and water parks across Spain - including parque Warner (see my other review).
The main entrance is on Carretera del Batan, however there is another entrance in the southwest corner of the park and this is only 130 metres from the Batan Metro Station (Line 10)
Entrance for 2008 is
27.50 euros per person ages 7 and above (unlimited attraction access)
18.00 euros per person ages 3 - 6 years (unlimited attraction access)
9.30 euros for park only entrance ( then pay 4 euros per ride option)
Check the opening times prior to your visit as the timetable is limited outside summer months.
Walking tours
by SirRichard
On friday and saturday nights there are some walking tours around old Madrid, organised by the Tourist Office. They take about 2 hours around the city centre, from Plaza Mayor, and include some disguised characters that play little representations of street scenes of Madrid of the XVII century.
To get the tickets go to the tourist office that is located at Plaza Mayor, 3.
6 euros.
Drinks, Football, Music...
by mollymoo0oo0 about Taberna de Embajadores
This large taberna has a lively mix of people regularly popping by, and the staff are always happy to welcome all who pass through the doors....
A good pitstop for a couple of copas, with complimentary tapas... To drink I recommend trying out the cerveza negra if you want something different or perhaps una jarra de sangria and to eat, the following raciones:
- patatas mixtas (with both bravas and ali-oli salsas) 3,50€ (plenty to share for 3 people)
- ensalada de tomate, queso y manzana 3,00€ (tomato, cheese and apple salad)
- tumaca de salmon 2,50€
If you like football, you will also find here the major matches played - on TV and a large screen, especially Atletico and Real Madrid.... other entertainment here includes table football and American darts, a random mixture of music (anything from ABBA and pop to trance... a rare find in Madrid) and a good fun vibe from the friendly bar staff!! Be Yourself!!
