Madrid at a gilmpse
by agarcia
Madrid (when compared with other European capitals) doesn't have amazing monuments, or enormous skyscrapers, or even romantic and charming riversides. But it's so full of life, of things to do and places to see that you will not miss any of the latter things. Hard to choose one single moment as the fondest one, as many places of Madrid bring to my head sweet memories... However, I'll say that walking Gran Via on a sunny morning is fantastic experience. You can be amused with the local crowd (the most extravagant you are likely to find in the city) or enjoy with the finest architectural examples of Madrid. Your choice!!!
2 de Mayo
by agarcia
May the 2nd is Community of Madrid local festivity, commemorating the beginning of the Resistance against the Napoleonic invasion of 1808 (blah blah blah, boring historical fact). The real live fact is that it makes a wonderful long weekend holiday at the beginning of May, which is the very best month to visit Madrid, imho.
During that weekend, there are plenty of cultural activities in the city. Among my favorites, I'll put the free concerts at Plaza del 2 de Mayo (Malasa?a district). Live music, tasty and grassy food, plenty of beer... My kind of place! :-D

Crowed but worth it
by laura4n8 about El Rastro
El Rastro was crowded but fighting the crowds was worth it. I found many treasures here and enjoyed the people watching. But what I liked best was the La Latina area. The architecture was different that the rest of Madrid and was charming! You can nearly everything here! I found great silver jewerly and clothes at El Rastro. Negotiate! Never pay what they offer.
Teatro Real (Royal Theatre/Opera Theatre)
by Redang
I must admit that I didn't know if I should add Teatro Real to "Things to Do Tips" or "Nightlife Tips", but finally I decided to add it to both of them.
In the Teatro Real you can enjoy Opera, Classical Music and Dance.
